More problems than its worth? (ROM Update)
From all I am reading here, it looks like this ROM update is more problems that what it fixes. ( if it fixes anything ) What is the benifit of the ROM update vs the problems that it creates. Should I update or just leave well enough alone? Or maybe just hold out for the WM05 release?

Has this ROM update actually helped anyone? From the threads here it doesn't look good.

Thanks for any help.

The extended battery life issue is the only problem I've had, and I wouldn't have thought it was related to the ROM update except that others have seen the same thing.

The good thing I've seen from the ROM update is better network browsing speed. And I mean a whole lot faster browsing network shares.

The Windows Media Player issue is a moot point for me, since I use BetaPlayer for watching my movies and videos.

So I guess my vote would be One Good, One Bad, and One Indifferent.

Thanks Robert, I have read that thread. But I guess what I am getting at is more in what your last statement "I have to admit i find it quite amusing, all they hype of we want a rom update, and now its here, everyone is moaning about it!" We waited and complained about getting an update but now that we got it, it doesn't seem to be causing anything but more problems than what we had to start with. I have not tried the update just for all the complaints and problems that have been reported. My 4705 is ticking away with very little problems at the moment and without someone standing up and saying that it has made some wonderful improvements, I think I should just leave well enough alone.

I downloaded the ROM upgrade-installed it-and have had no problems what so ever. Not sure what ALL THE PROBLEMS ARE.

Very good trip, thanks (lots of beer) . Isn't it funny how very few people just step up and say they had no problems, but if someone has the slightest little problem they comeout kicking and screaming. oh well, nature of the beast I guess.

I've had ROM update since day it was out, haven't had any problems so far.

People are always posting "problems" on these forums, don't think the number related to the new ROM is any higher than the usual amount normally posted.

WELL SAID DREDD... Edited by moderator as this portion was neither meaningful or constructive... This portion edited by moderator as member continues to post in all caps with out regard for other members...oh ..now that 05 is going to be available... it will be worth it to do the 128mg upgrade... once 05 is installed, the capabilities of the 4700 with o5 and 128 mgs of ram will be equal to a hi end laptop with 2g of ram in preformance and capacity ... the 4700 with 05 and a 128 upgrade will immediatly scream to the forefront of ppc preformance and capability... add in a 4 g micro-hdd or big storage card.. and the new upcoming "n" sd wireless card.. wont be "anything out there" that can touch it and fit in your pocket...

The ROM update hasn't really done anything good for me. Instead the most important function of my hx4700 is broken... my Wifi Access

Everyone seems to say how much of an improvement the UI is; i personally don't notice any difference. And now it refuses to connec tto my WiFi.

I found my hx4700 a bit faster, especially when it comes to wifi. I recommend the upgrade if you have the time.

I had to wait to get back from a business trip to even be able to upgrade, no cradle with me. I am grateful for folks' feedback in the various threads.

I decided to go ahead. Things do seem faster, though maybe it's from a clean rebuild. So far nothing's broke.
