Innopocket magnesium case
Hi guys,

Am in the market for a case and just wanted some of your thoughts. I think I'm going to get the innopocket magnesium case but have heard a lot of complaints about the fastener and paint, which I understand have been corrected.

Have any of you guys bought the case since the "improvements" and are the paint and closing problems still an issue.

Thanks,

C

I bought my magnum case about 3 weeks ago (after they came back into stock), and as is usual for my tech stuff has been in for some rough treatment. As yet I have not managed to get one scratch on it, so I would suggest that the paint issue has been resolved.

As to the latch, it still isn't very good at holding the flip closed, but the advantages of such a great case (I love the case, the closest thing to the old metal screen cover on the Jornada 54x's - why don't HP reuse that idea?) far outweigh the fact that the latch doesn't hold 100% of the time.

I think that the best is an aluminium case...
I don't have a case yet but a lot of my friends that have it are very satisfied!!!

I am looking at the Innopocket mag case as well, and I don't recall reading any posts or issues about the paint. Are we referring to the paint on the case itself or on the 4705?

on the case itself... i'll see if i cnan dig up the post but pettery much the black coloring of the case is very thin and it can chip off especially when using in conjunction with the belt clip and underneath the black magesium is silver colored magnesium. personally i dont care that the paint is wearing down, the protection it offers is superb.

ps- the post with the pictures of where the most scratching occurs is here http://www.ipaqhq.com/forums/showthr...ight=magnesium

also innopocket claims to give you a free replacement once they fixed the paint problems (which supposedly they have). i haven't gotten around to ordering my replacement yet.

Mine has now arrived I'm well impressed with the delivery. It only took a few days. And thats from USA to UK. I wasn't expecting it so soon. 8 weeks seems a bit odd. Where did you order from?

I'm very pleased with the case. Ok, the catch is a bit crap but it does the job (kind of).

The case barely ads any size to the pda and is very light. I feel much more confident carrying my new HX4700 around with it snuggled into this case. It's not going to protect the pda from any heavy or sharp blows as there is no real padding, but it will stop it from getting scratched etc.

I bought it from Proporta.com when they were pulled due to the paint issues, and they sent a nice neoprene case "while you wait" !!!!! I didn't expect 8 weeks. I was told they would be back in stock last week, but still no sign off it.

The latch on mine is not working as well as it used to and it is starting to get a little scratched up. I have not bothered to send away for a replacment yet. Overall it is probably my favorite case of all time, my usual preference was leather before this case.

As a followup to my earlier post, I can now say that I have some scratches on it, but only on the edges that it rests on when using it, and even then, they are only small scratches, but they do show up because of the dull grey metal undearneath.

More importantly, has anyone had any success in keeping the flip closed? The latch on mine might as well not even be there considering how poor a job it does. The flip seems happy to just permanently sit up just wee bit at the latch end.

I returned my origional Mag case Innopocket and the replacement came within the week (from Hong Kong to Canada). The paint finish is better, but it is a paint finish so it will scratch no matter what you do. I managed to scratch mine yesterday while carrying it on my belt and banging up against a concrete wall. Only scratched on a couple corner spots but better protection that the leather case that I also use.

Over all I'm impressed with the case and the new version latch is better. The original relied and small pins on the plastic latch dropping into two indents. The new latch is more rugged with the plastic latch curved to ride over two larger nibs on the end of the case. The latch does by no means lock the lid in place, but it is latched enough for my protection purposes but loose enough to allow the lid to be flipped open to use the PPC without struggling and without having to use two hands to open it. In my opinion is this case is as good as there is right now.

I had one of the original ones with the bad paint and the bad latch. About 2 days after I got it, I dropped the case and the latch nubs snapped right off. I emailed cases.com and they offered to replace it, which they subsequently did with one with the paint problem corrected. I've had it for a little while now and while the paint didn't scrath immediately, I use my PPC constantly and now the paint job is a mess. That doesn't bother me though, it's just paint. The point of my purchase was protection from my own clumsiness and in that regard this case is the best of the best.

As for the latch, it's still crap, but an interesting thing happened today. I pulled the PPC out of my belt holster and lost my grip. My case containing my PPC went flying through the air and landed HARD on a concrete slab outside my office. I thought for sure my iPAQ would be toast, it was a violent fall and impact. To my happy surprise, the iPAQ was just fine and a side benefit that arose from the accident is that somehow the impact bent the case *just right* and now that crappy little latch closes and holds the case firmly closed! No more flipping it open with a flick of the wrist, I actually have to use two hands to open the latch now (which I what I would prefer). So the accident FIXED the latch for me this time around!

@ cooldude: sorry to hear that, thats gotta suck!

Hmm, I might send innopocket and email and see if they will replace it, not cause of the paint (I really couldn't care less about the way it looks) but I am just a little uncomfortable with the flip not closing completely.

Thanks for the feedback
