Claunch Question...
Just came across a mention of Claunch in these forums and checked it out. Not bad particularly for the price (freeware!) especially since my add on budget is reaching it's limit!
Can anyone help me find some skins?
I found a great image of one HERE but it doesn't seem to be available for download. Great looking tabs compared to the regular ones.
Any hot tips on skins for this program (and comments on Claunch)?

I am not sure of this Claunch shell software, but I know of one that probably does much more. May I direct you over to www.ppx3k.com. I am not paid to advertise for them or anything, but I have been a member of their community since 2003 (my forum name is 8ball). PPX3k is a shell for the PPC OS, but adds a suite of extensive modifications enabling more efficient use of your PPC. I have been alpha testing the latest release, expected to be out sometime in the near future, which will offer better VGA support and more features. Some features in the existing version (2.33) are draggable icons, icon labels, tattooed icons, multiple pages, user defined popup menus, exact placement of objects, definable taskbar hotspots, cascading start menu, skinable taskbar, etc. The UI is totally skinnable and skinning is very easy to do. Also, there are roughly 150 skins already to choose from and more and more being designed all the time ( I am building an XP-like VGA UI for both landscape and portrait modes as well as an OSX version of the same type).

I strongly urge you to check it out over at ppx3k.com, or ppxthemes.com (for ideas of what is possible with PPX). I believe the software is like $9.95, and, considering what you get, it is almost like stealing, it is such a good price.

Also, there is a VERY dedicated staff and many expert users that can be contacted either via email or through the cool forums over there. I am always reachable for questions if you have any, jnppc@comcast.net. Hopefully I can help, or direct you to someone who can.

Again, I DO NOT work for the PPX3k company, so I am not trying to push you into buying the software. I simply want to give my opinion on this awesome product. I have been using it for over 2 years, and I know the product pretty well and I know that the people over there are really cool, I would love to help a new PPXer out if you had any problems or questions. It would be worthwile to check out the free demo, though I am not sure if the demo is the latest version. It may still be the one from a year or so ago, so take its UI with a large grain of salt, as most of the more modern PPX features will be missing.

It DEFINITELY needs some work before I'd consider buying it. Icons dont show up properly in the control panel... it desperately needs VGA support and it feels like Windows 3.11 compared to Windows XP (GUI-wise).

Yes, it's quickly becoming apparent that Claunch needs updating. Not ready for VGA. The icons look terrible and now it's not sizing the today screen from the tabs down in the right size. Hard to complain when free though. Hopefully some ambitious developer will take it on as a project! I'll check the PPX 3K.

Shallax were you refering to Claunch or PPX3K when you said is Definitely needs some work?
Thanks

Have a look at the main page for claunch:

You will see links to a few other pages where items are available to download.

I will grant you that, Shallax, The current PPX3k release needs some VGA help. BUT... the coming (soon!) new version of PPX3k, known over there as PPX-SR (Second Release) will have MUCH better VGA support, including default VGA landscape and portrait modes. We just ahve to give it time. VGA hasn't really caught on yet with PDAs, and as more and more become available (and cheaper) more UIs will become available.

I used claunch happily when I first got my 4700. I have since switched to iLauncher, which is totally outstanding. IMHO ilauncher is the best program launcher out there if what you care about is something small, customizable, and which does not slow down system performance or cause system crashes. I tried them all, more or less.

Also, iLauncher is being continually upgraded with a very responsive programmer who will pretty much put whatever you want in there as long as it it not too stupid.

iLauncher is really nice, even if it isn't free - plus you have the super-cool feature that lets you put shortcuts on the bottom bar.
