Touchpad: Love Or Hate It?
I love my hx4700 and wouldn't give it up now that I've got it with this sweet new screen but I'm still wondering about this touchpad.
It's nice and smooth and integrated and from a maintanence/repair point of view likely has less moving parts therefore less likely to break but overall at this point I think if I had a choice I would stick with a traditional DPad.
I know this is primarily a business machine and I use it as such but I still like to play a game or two now and then and when I recently tried something that required pad control it was very difficult. Ultimately I removed the program.
How do you feel about it?

I love the touchpad. I can eat lunch with my right hand and browse the daily news with my left hand. I guess I could do that with the Dpad but once you get used to it the touchpad is great.

I don't love it, I dont hate it. Granted, its terrible for gaming but if you're founding argument for your purchase of a PDA is gaming you have too much money and too much time on your hands.

For "business" applications, its fine.

I personally love it but then I never had a device with a Dpad to which to compare this

The touchpad doesn't distract me from any serious work as I need the stylus anyway. On the other hand, nothing beats the touchpad when I'm in the back yard having a cold one while surfing the net, reading the news and of course, browsing this forum.

There is also the WOW factor that seems to impress a lot of my friends.

Cheers

I love it but it is a little hard to get used to. Its nice though. I just slide my thumb over it and I ge the response I want. A lot easier than a nav 5-way button. The Touch Pad is almost effortless.

I find the Touchpad horrible for eBook reading. I want to find buttons by feel and not have a stray touch wreak havoc. The Synaptics touchpad on my Dell laptop is equally horrible and inconsistent in reaction to touch (my Thinkpad's rubber button thingy, OTOH, is great). I've disabled it on the laptop and put it in cursor mode on the iPAQ to keep it out of the way as much as possible. Speaking of finding and operating buttons by feel, I also find the hx4705 power and side (record) buttons very difficult to operate. I don't have large or clumsy hands.

Rob,
I notice from time to time you put up a post which basically says "you shouldn't have started this thread....a similar thread already exists."
First I'll say that I did do a search and this thread didn't come up in the first page...maybe it's because the search system searches the body as well as the text and brings in a high number of hits with typical keywords (like touchpad).
I would also be inclined to say that if repeated threads didn't exist forums would die. Probably better than 75% of posts are repeats. I found this out long ago on other forums on which I had been a long time member.
Sorry if I created a nuisance. I will try to post less in case its a duplicate.

Red Seven, I am not saying it a nuisance - I am saying that a thread like it already exists that you may not have noticed. If I thought it really was a nuisance thread then I would have done something about it - rather than point a link to a very similar thread

My post was in no way made to inform you that you should post less, but to highlight that on a subject as evocative as the touchpad a very similar thread already exisits You may also notice that I usually only post these links when users are not novices.

(BTW - this was the third poll about the Touchpad - there is another HERE)

Also, I don't understand how starting a new thread is any different to restarting an older thread on an identical subject in keeping boards alive

If you are after feedback for what people think of the touchpad then surely being informed that there is another thread increases the feedback that you now have - or was that not the point of the thread

(Just for information the advanced search option allows you to choose whether to search the 'Entire post' or just the 'Title Headers' - there is a drop down under the Keyword).

Rob,
Thanks for the tip on the search option. It should be very useful in filtering down my result to find what I'm really after. Sorry if I seemed to be giving you a rough time. Didn't really mean to, particularily since you have been so helpful to me on several occasions not to mention the help you regularly provide others. It wasn't the intent of your post I see, it just kind of came across to me that way. Once again sorry for any offense. I enjoy happy helpful forums and don't want to be the one to cause otherwise.
