Can't Print w/ HP Mobile Printing
I've read many posts and talked to HP about printing to a shared printer on my network. I can’t find anything that definitively explains how to make it work.

On my network, I have a computer hosting a DJ990 printer shared to "everyone." I can print from all workstations on the network and can access shares on the hosting computer with my hx4705. I can't, however, print to the DJ990 from my PDA. I've tried the embedded HP Mobile Printing and the 4.x upgrade. Here's what I do:
1. Start a WLAN connection (WiFi)
2. Open Print Config and select Add.
3. Select Network as the "kind of printer."
4. The Manufacturer is HP and the Model is Deskjet 960/980/990C Series
5. Input the UNC path to the printer (also tried IP address)
6. Add a printer name
7. Select "print test page"

Once done, I immediately get an error 3017. I get the same error when printing from other apps on the PDA. Clearly, the issue is that the PDA can't connect to the printer for some reason.

Does anyone know why printing doesn't work using my WiFi connection? The setup screen suggests network printing is allowed. Further, I can access shares on the hosting computer, so it eliminates authentication, etc.

Thanks.

Have you tried opening a file path to the printer, using either the built in File Explorer or another utility such as Resco or Total Commander? After you have opened the path just make sure you are using the same syntax in both the file explorer and the configuration utility.

HP mobile printing is a memory hog. I have experienced many problems and tried various solutions in the past months. The only one that works reliably is to perform a soft reset first, have few if any plugins running (in my case no wisbar, pocket plus and pocket breeze ok). Turn on WiFi, go to print configuration, add a network print (type the path = \\computer name\printer namve) print a test page. If it prints your good to go. If not and you get a 3017 error you still are consuming too much memory. Also after you sucessfully setup your printer and want to print in the future, you will have to limit you memory usage again by stopping running programs and use only the program you want to print from. I know- a pain, byt the HP documentation indicates the need for 64mb ram as a system requirment to use mobile printing. I have found that BT printing work the best as far as consistent results. I have also tried every other print porgram available and the only one that comes close to working how it should is PrintPocket CE. I also reverted to useing repligo to convert all my documents that I may want to print in the field, again another pain.

Sorry for the bad news, but the good news is you can make it work.

I had a similar problem and kept checking all my printer settings (name of printer, etc.) and everything was correct and the same on my network. I finally discovered that my firewall was blocking the function. I opened the firewall to allow the ip address from the ipaq and then everything worked flawlessly.
