If you managed the process with Ger->Eng rather than Fra->Eng, which I think should be possible also, I am interessted in your comments, suggestions and possibly improvements. Maybe you could PM them to me in German.

Well no success so far. I ran into some problems with dd under windows (yes there is a version for windows).
basically I am flashing the written image now and will see if I have killed it or not
the problems I ran into were firstly a limit on the block size command, I had to run it without specifying the block size for it to back up the file. Problem is since there is no file system it was backing up the whole card which in my case is 1GB way too long to do that. So having previous experience with successfully flashing to bad ROMs I forged ahead and directly wrote the eng rom to the sd card, but after a while it would cut out with a bad parameter message. So then I did the file splicing mentioned in the article. I basically took the first block sector from the english ROM and replaced the german block at the same location. This time it wrote and wrote and wrote forever. I finally just stopped it, but when I put the card in this time it recognized and asked to flash it. IF this fails I'll have to rerun the german install to fix it, but hell it is worth a try.
Not sure why I had the problems I did with dd under windows it may just be too immature at the moment to sucessfully do this.
anyway hope this helps
