Active sync after hard reset
Guys - HELP,

Posted a thread about a week ago about losing data following hard reset....and you dont need to tell me that I should have backed it up. Well finally took the plunge and hard reset the beast losing everything. Today I put the PDA in the cradle and the active sync window came up asking if I would like to create a new partnership. I connected as a guest but cant find an option about how to restore the data that was previously there prior to the reset.

Does active sync not keep a copy of contacts and PI info to cross reference with each time you put the PDA in the cradle. If anyone has got any ideas about how to get my data back - particularly PI and contacts I would be very grateful.

Thanks,

C

The reason why Activesync is asking to create a new partnership is because you now have a clean registry. The registry holds sync information about the desktop. You will need to remove the old partnership on the desktop. Then cradle it again.

All of the PIM information on the desktop will still be in tact. It will sync over to the PPC once you have created the partnership.

If you have done a Activesync backup then it would be a little different. You would connect as guest first then restore using Activesync. Then after a soft reset you will be able to sync as normal.

It took me a long time to get that one. The data is all held in Outlook, so it will sync from there. If you had lot's to 3rd party programs installed, though, you'll have to reinstall them. I finally learned to keep them all in one place. And, to back up regularly!
