Tethering a SMT 5600 Smartphone to a IPaq hx4705
Has anyone had any success tethering a IPaq hx4705 to a Audiovox SMT 5600 Smartphone so a that you can get on the Internet on the IPaq via the phone? I've been to the Cingular store (where my service is through) and they thought it was possibel with the addition of some software from HP. They seemed at first to thing that one could not tether two PDA's together. Since the Smartphone is a PDA of sorts. The store guy and I could not get the Bluetooth manager on the IPaq to get the phone to connect to the internet. We entered all the settings per Cingular but it just didn't connect. After an hour of trying different thinks the store guy made a call and (whoever he called told him this) told me that I need to get a "driver" or a solution from HP to get the two to connect (tether). Agghhh....

Any help anyone?

Welcome to the site!

Give these settings a try. It should work for your phone. These settings work with my Orange SPV-C500, which is pratically the same phone.

Settings on PPC:
Number to Dial: *99#
Modem type: Bluetooth Dialup Modem
User Name: WAP@CINGULARGPRS.COM
Password: CINGULAR1
Baud Rate: 57600
Modem Dial String: +CGDCONT=1,"IP","WAP.CINGULAR"

Settings for Phone:
GPRS WAP service
Access point: WAP.CINGULAR
User name: TCRESDC5RFDX@W3.MYCINGULAR.COM
Password: ZJULDAGEN98810

What I have done is created a GPRS connection called Cingular. I then applied the GPRS WAP settings above. Then in the Data Connection settings on the phone make sure that Cingular is selected for the Internet Connection.

This is in Start -> Settings -> Data Connections. To create a new connection select Menu and goto Edit Connections. This is all on the phone.

All of the above settings worked for me. I originally got my settings from Modaco.

THANK YOU very much! You saved me a ton of trouble. I spoke to 5 different Cingular "experts" and none of them had a clue why it wasn't working. Not sure who keeps the setting you acquired such a secret at Cingular but I sure am glad someone got them out and is willing to share the knowledge.
