Turn off problem....
Already done a search...only found answers to the "keep's turning on" problem.

Mine is different:
When plugged into the cradle, it will NOT turn off automatically. Active sync is set only to manual everything.
Under power I have it set to turn off after 5 minutes while on AC power. Is this just for using the charging dongle only, or is it also for while in the cradle?

Mine doesn't turn off in the cradle (when sync'd to a PC). I guess this is normal??? Never Bothered me so far.

Hi Driftless, I think (but may be wrong) that as long as your desktop machine is on your device will not power off. But, if you desktop machine is powered off, the iPAQ will turnoff after 5 minutes. I was going to test this out earlier, just haven't had time to get to it yet.

Correct, as I understand it.

If my iPaq is in the cradle overnight it stays off. If it is in the cradle and the laptop is on then it stays on, or turns itself on after 5 minutes.

It makes sense if the ActiveSync connection is active. The pda obviously thinks that it is still being used (which it is), therefore it doesn't shout off. Similar to when you are listen to music or watching a movie. It will not power off because something is going on...
