Microdirve Windows Media Player 10
Has anyone experienced data corruption with their microdrives?

I have a Seagate ST1 5GB microdrive and a 1GB SD card. The SD card I have no problems with. Although the CF card gets corrupted anytime I try to add media files from that drive to my Library. I will take 4 GB of MP3’s and turn that directory into a single corrupted file. I them have to reformat the drive on a PC and the drive is fine again, until I try to add files to the Media Player Library.

The files play on the pocket PC as individual files, I just can’t add them to my library.

Again, this doesn’t happen to my SD card???

Use PocketMusic. At least try the demo to see if it works, I know that all of the Pocket PC versions of WMP are glitch-loaded, and while it has improved, PocketMusic or similar programs are far more effective at MP3 playback. Full library, manual and automated graphic equalizer functions, 100% skinnable, visuals that pulsate to the music, scrolling titles, etc etc etc. Just give it a shot and see if you can build a library w/out corruption. The trial version is the full version, just with a 14 day period of use (i believe).

It seems that the reg hack has prevented my files from being corrupt, at least at the moment. Although I still can not get WMP10 to add the Microdrive MP3's to the WMP library.

I can play these files if I open the directories individually and now, thanks to the reg hack, without loosing directory structure.

My next step is going to try using the WMP10 "sync" option on the PC to the Pocket PC. I know it does some reformatting, maybe that will fix the issue.

Actually, I had a slightly different problem with WM 10 on my 4700 and a Magistor 2.2 GB CF microdrive. When I try playing files from the card, after a few seconds, the unit just locks-up and I have to do a hard reset. My SD card works fine AND my Toshiba 5GB PC card with CF adapter works fine as well.

I've found a couple of quirky things with the implementation of WM 10 on the Pocket PC that make me wish I had WM 9 back on my unit.

I use a Hitachi 4GB micro drive with WM10 and all seems to be OK. Before I used the new drive, I formated with Windows XP. I have had odd-ball issues with my HX in the past that stemmed from a corrupted image on my HX. When the HP rep told me I had a corrupted HX image, I thought it was strange that that would be the case since everything else seemed to be working fine, but when I blew it away and reloaded the OS, he was right! Anyway, something to think about. Maybe reload your iPaq OS if all else fails.

Just an update: I still can not get WM10 to generate a libray from the Microdrive, although it plays the files from that drive just fine now and doesn't corupt any of the data.

Mike,

I've had similar probs with you using my 2.2Gb microdrive to play files. Locks up after 10 - 15 secs. I had this happen on my previous PPC (ASUS A620BT) and after numerous discussions with Magistor techs, it was discovered that I couldn't play music files running the ASUS on 'auto' power setting. Had to change it down.

I haven't had a chance to see if I can change the power of the 4700 yet so will check out in the next few days.

I use one of these microdrives, and have had no problems. I think its all to do with formatting:- you need to leave the card as RAW (despite what people say about formatting to FAT32). I initially tried to use media player 10 with a FAT 32 formatted microdrive, and the audio stopped, and I had problems getting it going again. Now I have initialised it, no problem with either audio or video.

How did you initialize it to RAW? Doesn't the card need some kind of formatting?
