USB Mass storage on Hx4700: new software solution
I have just installed the trial beta version of Softick Card Export II.
This soft allows you to use your iPAQ as a Card reader using the USB connection through the craddle or a connection cable. The access seems much quicker than the Explore function of AS on my laptop with only USB 1. ports. It is not expensive either but I have seen on PPCToughts that the order form does not yet correctly work for the PPC version (it seems that you get the registering key for Palm). So maybe we would wait a little bit before buying but it is definetly useful... I wanted to share the info with you.

Regards,

Murat

Cool!

Thanks as I've been missing this feature since I came over here from the Palm side.

This is definitely one of the main reasons I've held on to my palm.

I don't see that paying $14.95 is worth it when I can get the same functionality through AS.

So, convince me.

alan: I think it is meant to be faster thru the software, than thru active sync, i.e. card reader/writer speed

is that correct?

It is USB1.1 (rather than USB2.0 that you would get with a card reader). But that is still significantly quicker than AS

And the point of the software is that you can use it on ANY pc. Even if activesync isn't installed (having said that I'm sticking with my card reader)

Well, I do not have to since I do not have any financial interest in this company

I have seen this soft, tried it and found it interesting since it does not need AS on the computer (if you only use your's that may not be a problem for you but I carry a USB key + my iPAQ for working on documents + a PCMCIA card for reading SD cards and if the person with whom I collaborate has only a desktop PC, I can only use files on my USB key and they are the older version, of course...). With this soft, you just plug your USB sync cable on the PC and you are done. Moreover, I have found the connection much quicker than the AS-Explore feature.

Rob, your information is interesting. Given that I have only USB 1. ports on my laptop, I have not remarked it, it's a pity that it only gives USB 1 if you have USB 2 on your PC

Regards,

Murat

Missing it
I must be totally missing something because a) I don't know where to change the USB option from Active Sync to Card Export and b) I can't find the Card Export program on my PPC.

I downloaded Card Export II 200 from the website.
I double clicked and installed it to the Main memory.

I do have a Card export Setup icon in Programs on the PPC. When I click that, however, it either installs or uninstalls the program and then requires a reboot.

Very frustrating.

Click on the Card export icon at the bottom of the screen. A pop-up will come up. At the top of that pop-up check Card Export where Active Sync is default. Place unit in cradle. That should be it.
