CompactFlash and CompactFlash2 Cards
Things are still sailing along with my new HX4700 (fingers crossed).

Just a question about CF cards.....and I pretty much feel stupid asking this but, since I grew up believing that no question is stupid (even though that's what teachers tell dumb kids to make them feel better), I'm going to ask anyway.

I've just put a CompactFlash card into my hx4700. It's an old one I found laying around from a digital camera. As it's an older one it is not as thick as a CF2 card, thus there is a gap left in the CF card slot of my iPAQ.

Should I be worried about dust and dirt getting into that gap?

Forgive me of my innocence.......

And thanks in advance for taking the time to answer my question.

It probably depends on how you carry the iPaq. If it is in a pocket, then I imagine lint will build up over time. If you take the card out frequently, that lint would start getting packed into the bottom of the slot and could eventually interfer with inserting cards into the slot.

Here's a homemade solution I've heard about: Take a piece of tape as long as the CF card is wide. Run it along the edge of the top edge of the card, fold it under, leaving a protruding lip, then stick the rest to the front of the card.

Hey, thanks a lot Ikehiker! Visuals and everything! A perfect home solution. I've done it and you really can't even see that it's there (unless you're looking for it).

I'll keep my eye out now for a good deal on CF2 cards and then I can solve my problem for good.

Thanks again,

Thanks to both of you. Hadn't really thought about it before but will apply the fix as will be getting an Innpocket alluminium case today that leaves the slot exposed. Have been using a Targus zip up case till now so not been an issue. But when I eventually get my 4G microdrive....!!
