Security causing iPAQ to randomly lockup
Hello,

Looking for some input on a problem I’m having with my hx4700. It was locking up randomly, usually 3 or 4 times a day, and I’d have to do a soft reset. I had the included security software configured so tried turning that of to see if it solved the problem, and it did, it’s been working flawlessly since then. I tried activating it again and it went back to locking up.

However I really need the security active. Has anyone had this problem? Any recommendations?

Here’s what I have installed incase anyone knows of a conflict with another program. Just about everything is installed onto the iPAQ File Store.

DeLorme SA2005HH
Microsoft Pocket Streets
HAL9000 SE_VGA
MobiMate WorldMate
WESTTEK ClearVue Workshet Viewer
WESTTEK ClearVue Document Viewer
V-Mobile Software Network Browser
Skype
Resco Audio Recorder
Zimmermann Pocket Hosts
Microsoft Money
Metro
Macromedia Flash Player ActiveX

Any suggestions would be most welcome. Thanks!

Also, I have updated the rom, however I was having the same problem before I updated.

I can only think that is a conflict with one of the programs you have installed.

I use HP Protect Tools and the only time I have suffered problems with soft resets is when I installed a bit of unstable software.

What works and what doesn't seems to vary from person to person as I have tried programs that have worked perfectly for others that have caused problems for me. It would appear that it is the mixture of programs that you use rather than one in particular.

I have experimented and have managed to get a system which is 99% stable (I would say 100% but there is still the odd soft reset, although nothing to make using it a problem).

The only program I use that you have installed is Pocket Streets, which seems to run fine for me, so I would suggest it might be one (or more) of the other applications you have installed.

Sorry I could not be of more help but I thought you ought to know the it is not just Protect Tools that is causing the problem.

I use Pocket Streets & Flash Player, with no probs. I have (in the past) had HAL9000 installed, also with no probs.

As a long shot, do you have the dockware screensaver activated? It may be that this is trying to kick in but a piece of software that is running doesn't like it & is causing the PPC to hang. Just a thought...

Thanks for the suggestions! I disabled dockware and will give that a try for a couple days. I'll post back here what I find out.
