2GB SD card for hx4700?
Has anyone experience in using a 2GB SD card in an Ipaq hx4700?
Surprisingly, HP can only say that it may work i.e. they are not sure!!!

I shouldn't matter what size of storage card you use. Remember, the 4700 is designed for business use, so it should have the widest support for external devices (e.g. storage cards)

I use a magistor 2.2gb drive. No problems.

I've just recently purchased a 2gb card and have not had problems at all so far. Using it for movies and large program files. It's a Sandisk.

I'm running a 2.0GB Sandisk SD card in my hx4700, no problems with it ever. I even got a second one it worked so well--uses less power than CF cards of the same size as well from my testing... Avoid microdrives--they will drink batery capacity. I have a 2.2Gb magicstor microdrive, and it's FAST, but frankly I'd sell it if anyone wanted it for a reasonable price-but the Sandisk 2gb SD cards rock as battery life means *alot* to me.

Verify your 1.10 ROM hx470x does NOT have the battery-crippling failure.. see http://www.ipaqhq.com/forums/showthr...2&page=6&pp=25 for details...

SD 2 GB card no problems! But who knows how much current is drained more/less than with a 2 GB CF card??

It is solid state memory (non moving) so power consumption should be the same. This is the opposite of microdrives.

More memory capacity = more gates = more transistors = more current draw.

Of course, smaller transistors use less power, so that might make up for it.

In either case, the Sand Disk 2gb UII SD card seems to work fine in the iPaq.

But aren't the CF cards 3.3v devices and the SD 1.5v. Lower volatages yields lower power consumption, yeilding longer battery life. At lease if I remember my Ohm's Law.....

I did a comparative test a few months ago for power usage of CF and SD cards, and I tested up to 2Gb--in every instance, the CF card used more power than the same SD card; and in fact, SD cards as a "class of card" used lower power than the CF cards...basically all of them--maybe there was one exception... so I have concluded that SD cards are much more battery-friendly...

CF cards go up to 8GB and the 4 GB are reasonably affordable. Other than the greater capacity and possibly needing CF to go between a camera and the hx4700, I'd go with SD, since they don't seem to be priced much higher for the same size cards for most sizes.

Is it adviceable to remove CF and/or SD cards if you don't use the pda for a longer time?
I don't have any idea how much minutes/hours I consume by a 2 GB CF/SD card when the pda is swiched off totally?

I've found, running a hx4700 ipaq with 128mb RAM upgrade and 4Gb CF card and 2GB SD card that the battery will not be drained much at all if you leave it for even a month. I once left my pda for a month, and lost about 6% capacity---this was most likely from the daily cleanup/update routine that tends to run on all ipaqs at or near midnight daily. They briefly turn on then do their business then turn off. So the drain is negligible. Also, in a worst case scenario, the the newer ipaqs power off the CF and SD slots so they will not drain the baterey further when/if the battery hits ~10% capacity.

I tend to prefer the SD cards as well as they are very easy on the battery and are 2Gb now. But CF has such large capacities now, like 8GB! But then again, I tend to reserve the CF slot for a new accessory... a Convergent tech CF GSM card that gets 60kb/sec with t-mobile wireless...

Decisions decisions...

Microdrives have their advantages.. like the 2.2Gb one that I use sometimes is VERY high in it's transfer speed... but they really suck alot of juice from pda batteries! 2GB SD cards are the best overall--in a pinch, you can buy adapters/caddies that are CF cards that you can put a SD card into. I also, a long while ago, found a pcmcia caddy for a SD card--that was, at least then, hard to find! Cf to pcmcia is very common.
