Hi.
MX100i Stereo Headset - http://plantronics.com/north_america...ll/prod5140005 specially designed for iPAQ's. It has a microphone so it could be used for VoIP through Skype with 4700 connected to an access point.
I have no chance to try this headset on my own.
Have you tried yet? Please share your experience.
Thanks, Alex

That looks like a perfect headset....I had a 2.5" stereo headset with microphone that I use for my Motorola V710 phone to both listen to stereo music and also use the phone with--and I think instead of trying to find a 3.5" ipaq to 2.5" phone adapter I'll try to go get this set of headphones--although they are a bit pricey.... going to do some price checks...

Thanks!

Hi, this headphones are not that pricey just use pricegrabber.com and I am sure you will find them about twice cheaper.
Please keep me (all of us) updated about your experience.
Thank you.

Hmmm. I'm having a beast of a time finding someone that has these stereo "4-contact" 3.5" headphones "plantronics mx100i stereo" in stock and for under $35. I'm still looking.. many folks actually do not have this item, but they list it as such.. be sure you verify... beware... someone asked whether there is a 2.5" to 3.5" 4-contact adapter and I actually own one--I got it from a place in Hong kong that sold motorola accessories..[one end is blue and one end is black, a 3" or 4" cable. If I find the receipt/manufacturer I'll post it here...I had a hard time finding it. I use it with my v710 motorola phone and 3.5" headphones--and will use it with these plantronics mx100i stereo's once I get a pair...

Thanks!

I recently ordered a plantronics mx100i stereo from shopblt.com and just got the ship notification... $31 to my door. Great price...

I still cannot find the reference for the Hong Kong company that sells the 2.5mm 4 connector male to 3.5mm female4 connector but I barely remember I saw it in a reference to the V710 Motorola phone and it's stereo adset capability on a v710 hacking page at nuclearelephant.com i think it was.... like $20 for two adapters shipped to the usa....

GREAT news on two fronts:

The plantronics MX100i Stereo Headset rocks with the ipaq hx4700. Stereo 3.5mm headset with microphone working as well.

Go get one at shopblt.com . Great retailer...they shipped a couple of days after I ordered, even though I ordered the item on backorder. Was $31 to my door. I told them I'd send some folks over, so let 'em know I sent you. I don;t get a kickback or anyuthing like that. [re: my real name--I use my real name in my email address in my posts. --> jonathan_mirabile@hotmail.com ; I get spammed, but c'est la vie...]

Good news #2 FOUND it!

I found the 2.5mm stereo male adapter w/ mic to 3.5mm female adapter--four contacts that I refereed to above... see the bottom mp35a adapter at:
http://pc-mobile.net/mpx200.htm
and picture of the adapter itself at:
http://pc-mobile.net/mp35a.jpg
they note that their minimum credit card order is $11.50 excluding p/p so order two like I did...it was about $19 as I recall. I'm not affiliated with these guys either...
They also say the microphone does not necessarily work, but it did for me. Maybe they meant that if you were using them to listen to music, then if a call comes in the mic is off. Dunno.... I thought it worked just fine as a headset+mic--but the call was not in stereo. But even if no mic works (anymore), still listening to music from your cellphone in stereo, if supported, rocks. the adapter plus the plantronics is the best wired headset combo I've determined.

But if you get one of these mp35a adapters and used the plantronics mx100i stereo headset then you have stereo listening from your Nokia phone or your Verizon V710 like I use. Stereo music from my phone, stored in the 128mb transflash card--and the phone has bluetooth and supports the DUN profile, but is crippled on a ton of other profiles. sigh....

Glad to help... Any good news or further reports... let us know....

FOR SALE:

I have more good news... I have a spare mp35A adapter for sale:
This is a 2.5mm stereo male adapter w/ mic to 3.5mm female adapter--four contacts that I referred to above... see the bottom mp35a adapter at:
http://pc-mobile.net/mpx200.htm
and picture of the adapter itself at:
http://pc-mobile.net/mp35a.jpg

Anyone want it? I have an unused spare I'll sell for $12.00, with free shipping, via paypal to any address in the continental USA or you can prepay if you like. I HAD to buy two and spend $19 from overseas, and you benefit... works great for listening to mp3's in stereo on my verizon/motorola V710 email me if interested!

Forgot to mention this mp35a adapter [ http://pc-mobile.net/mp35a.jpg ]allows you to let your 2.5mm Nokia/Motorola phone audio out connector connect up to regular cheap stereo 3.5mm headphones (like a buck at a dollar store!), you don't need the plantronics headset I've discovered.
The mp35A adapter is gold plated on the connectors... high quality.... get stereo/MP3 sound from your 2.5mm jack compatible phone....

Wow, this thing almost looks like the perfect Headset. It looks like a couple of headphones but it couples in the microphone.. Very nice.. If only BOSS attached a headphone onto one of their disgustingly expensive headsets. That would be nice..

Hi, happy posters to this thread,

Not being skeptical or anything. I just want some reassurance here before ordering.

How do these rascals work? I thought I'd read that there was no audio-in capability through the audio jack of iPaqs. Or is the 4700 different from other models in this regard? (I have a 4355 and a 2755.)

Please advise.

Hmm I'm really unsure of whether the other ones are different from the hx4705... But I'm positive the hx4705 has the audio-in capability. Also, considering the headset is for all iPAQs or at least its labeled that way.. I would guess so.. But that doesn't do much for you does it?

Thanks, C-Dude. It's a start. I just worry because if you go to the Plantronics site, it's all described in the context of mobile phones. It would make sense if the 6xxx series had an audio-in capacity. So "all iPaqs" might just mean all iPaq phones . . . plus you lucky guys.

I'll wait to see if there's someone with happy experience with a different model.

The hx4700 / hx4705 (and some models that are as new as the hx4700--others verify for usre please) has a 3.5 mm jack [and the Verizon V710 phone and many Nokias have a 2.5mm jack that is otherwise identical with 4 contacts] that supports 4 contacts... this picture for the 2.5mm jack adapter shows this well, the 3.5 mm adapter on the plantronics is just 1 mm larger:
http://pc-mobile.net/mp35a.jpg
Well one contact is for ground, two are for the left/right stereo channels, and one is for the microphone inputs. My hx4700 uses all four, and records fine through the plantronics mx100i stereo headset's microphone. I know it plays in stereo and records through a microphone--the most noteworthy use is for Skype voice-over-ip [voip] calls through my hx4700 pocketpc. I can also use the plantronics' micrphone to record through my fave recording app, resco audio recorder.

I use this adapter, http://pc-mobile.net/mp35a.jpg, to listen to my phone in stereo and also to hear mp3's on my phone's transflash card in stereo.

Does that help?

Hi Jonathan,

Thanks for the detail. Yes, it's for Skype that I'd want this too. But do you know how I discover whether I have a four-contact jack?
