Q about BT GPS and old ROM
I ordered a Globalsat BT-338 for use with my non-updated ROM hx4700 unit (should arrive shortly). I am leary of updating the ROM due to the well-discussed battery issue. However, I read somewhere about a BT memory problem -- will I have problems running OCN4 with the BT-338 if I don't upgrade the ROM? Anyone have any experience? Thanks.

I have the exact combo minus the software. Haven't touched the ROM update. Works fine with an occasional Bluetooth out of memory error. I've found that the more memory I leave available the better this things runs. Almost all programs are in filestore.

Thanks for the reply. When you get the out of memory error, can you just start up your mapping software again, or do you have to do a soft reset? I would hate to be driving, get the memory error, and then have to mess around with a soft reset in the middle of driving.

The out of memory error only occurs at initial Bluetooth radio startup, and yes, a soft reset will clear enough memory to allow it to run. Got to love memory leaks!

It's not like your iPaq will get full of Bluetooth GPS NMEA sentence strings and need to be burped. []

If your gonna use Mapopolis, make sure you get the latest beta. VGA support etc. I usually go to the GPSPassion.com dedicated Mapopolis/news forum. Links, latest, etc.Pretty stable now, as well.

What with all the battery issues, I'm gonna let mine sit on the original ROM til I the WM5 upgrade has been out a bit. Unless that HTC Universal proves too tempting...
