Your thoughts for First Time HP 4700 owners?
As some of you know, I finally made my order online for the HP 4700 after much debate.

Now, that my HP 4700 should be arriving within the next 5-7 business days - as well as considering this is my very first PDA. Now I am left wondering where do I start...

I decided to just make this thread, considering with noticing alot of first time PDA owners who are about to Purchase the HP 4700. So, I figure having this Main Thread to sum up the Best & First intial things you guys recommend to have & do.

Such as:
- Whats the best kind & amount of storage space you recommend (keeping those slightly above avg. media buffs in mind), with SD & CF?

- What is usually best way to manage SD & CF...what should go where for best performance?

- Considering the HP 4700 is Fresh out the box, what type of Updates should someone have to make (Howard Roark, had mentioned to Not install 1.1, i believe)

- In your personal opinion, what are your TOP 3 Software applications you fill is a MUST have for your HP 4700?

As well as, Any extra accessories that you personally found to be a Great addition to owning a HP 4700.

What are your Thoughts?

What you mean is you didn't want to do a search (it is a link at the top of the page) and find the answers and opinions already posted:

Storage people use: http://www.ipaqhq.com/forums/showthread.php?t=11283
Memory management: http://www.ipaqhq.com/forums/showthread.php?t=18347
SD v CF: http://www.ipaqhq.com/forums/showthread.php?t=18919 and http://www.ipaqhq.com/forums/showthread.php?t=18676
Top3 programmes (but it depends what YOU want to do with the unit): http://www.ipaqhq.com/forums/showthread.php?t=13051

There is really only update worth considering and that is the ROM update and there are two camps on that issue - look at the numeerous threas in the 470x forum.

Accessories are a very personal thing, but a case and screen protectors I would deem as essential and an additional/ larger battery is always useful. Everything else may or may not add something for YOU

rob...is it ok if I use those links and put them on my pda just for reference for me and for others? the reason i ask is because sometimes threads get barried...and it will save me time shuffling through the threads?

I just got my 4700 and decided to do the Rom update. I only have the standard battery so even it does effect battery life, it's my understanding that it knocks the battery down to 89%. I could be wrong on that but I flashed anyway.

From what I gathered was the update did fix a lot of issues and the only negatives were the battery. I also found some who said they had not seen the battery issue.

For me the fixes out weighed the battery issue. We can only hope the battery issue will be resloved soon and we will have out cake and eat it too.

Of course - you can put whatever you like into your MyPDA (subject to the normal rules of the site, of course). Most of the links in my MyPDA are for my use - so that I can find developers sites really easily and I can remember what I have installed (and where) - it just so happens that others also find them useful

Not sure what you meant by this though :

1. buy a screen protector
2. buy a case that will protect your ipaq (The mag case is well worth a look)
