Important Moving of Programs
After reformating all of my computers in my house, including my ipaqs, I had to reinstall everything on my HX4700 (obviously). Our digicam is about 2-3 years old so we were planning on getting a new one, which we did order a few days ago. However, I was assuming we would get one with CF or SD, but I was planning on one with SD. Therefore, I installed all my programs to my CF card. Mainly because then I can take out the SD and still use Resco Photo viewer and my other apps with the pictures in. Unfortunately, we ended up with a CF card camera! It is a Sony DSC V3. Now, I am at an awful point. Do I hard reset my ipaq and reinstall everything, leading me to have to also set it up again? Or is there a way to move all my programs from my CF Card to my SD Card? I could also move them to the IFS, but they won't all fit. I have about 115mb of programs and ~80mb of IFS. Right now, (tell me if this is a good idea) I plan on using iPodder to download podcasts to a folder on my server and then I will use MightySync to sync that folder with my IFS. This would work well I think, but it worries me that it will be written to every week or so. Would it be better to put most of my programs in the IFS and the rest on my SD card...and then put podcasts on my SD card? I'm open to suggestions, but I really need to get the programs moved. As it is now, I couldn't even use Resco Picture Viewer while I had my digicam CF card installed!

I always install programs that need access to memory cards into filestore to prevent this issue, but that's not going to help you, as you've already installed those programs.

Ok, now you do not need to reinstall everything. If you open activesync, you should be able to open the add/remove program dialog and un-check the programs you want to move. This will uninstall just those programs. Then when you re-check them, you will be prompted for the location. At this point select filestore for them.

You could also move the programs using Explorer, but this would require recreating all the shortcuts to launch the programs as they will not point to the correct location anymore. I'm not sure if this would cause registry problems or not, so it's best to use the first option.

You shouldn't have to move everything, just the programs that need to access files on cf cards.

If you installed using cab files directly on the hx4700, the first option will not work. I have used the second method for programs that were only available in a cab file and I haven't had any problems with this yet.

I have every program except Spb pocket plus and HP mobile printing installed to iPAQ file store. For the following reasons.

1. It is 85MB of available non volitle storage.
2. Can't lose it or destroy it short of iPAQ meltdown.
3. I still have 44MB left with all the programs loaded I use along with themes and skins.
4. Quick and easy restore after a hard reset, as long as I follow the golden rule - back up often, especially before loading new software.
5. Use the SD and CF slots for expansion such as storage, peripherals.
6. Thats where WM5 is going to put my programs.

I sympathize with your dilemma, as I to continue to "learn by doing".
Good Luck

I think I'll use the uncheck OK and recheck OK to reinstall them to the IFS and I'll put most of my programs there and then a few of my favorite and largest programs that need more speed will go into the SD card.

Ummm I'm thinking that benn 600 may have a little too much time on there hands.
Why?
How many PCs and PPCs do you have?
Is this a scheduled event in the Benn600 household?
My God I cringe at the mere thought of a reformat and do so only when my computer absolutely needs it. I know I'm off topic but I am curious.

Yes, my computers absolutely needed to be reformatted. I thank you for your "confusing" comment!
