First purchase towards my upcoming PDA
Hi everyone!

I just made my first purchase towards my first upcoming PDA - The HP 4700.
Ive been reading the importance of having a screen protector as being a High priority; so I ordered a 'Boxwave Crystal Clear Screen Protector'

My next upcoming purchase Wish List (at the moment) is:
1) SD Memory - 512MB or 1Gig (still debating which size I should go with)
2) CF Memory - 512MB or 1Gig (still debating also)
3) TOM TOM Navigator 5 Bluetooth - (USA)
4) HP 4700 Case - (leaning towards a leather casing)

Good choice for your first purchase. I never use a screen on a new PDA until I have the protector on it.

Some thoughts on your want list.

1) I would get at least 1Gig. You're probably going to want to be able to play videos using Betaplayer (Freeware and better than WMP). They have 2Gig chips available now and 4's are on the way. If you can't afford the 2, then at least be happy that it's dropped the price of the 1Gig.

2) See "1)" These go as high as 8Gig, but the 8 is about the same price as the hx4700! I have debating getting a 4Gig. You can also get microdrives, which use more power and are more delicate due to moving parts, but they are also much cheaper per GB.

4) I waited for TomTom 5 to come out due to issues I had been hearing about running it on a hx4700. When it finally was released, according to messages posted on the forums I was frequenting, it appeared none of the really bad issues were fixed, so I went with iGuidance, which supports VGA as well as "Real VGA" if you keep both versions of the program installed. The only thing I don't like about it is it's lousy address look-up if you try and use address book look-up. Your addresses have to be dead on and there can be no punctuation in your addresses. The other destination setting options work very well though, so it's not a problem.

4) I have 2 Sena cases. One for use with a standard battery and another that works with the extended battery. You may want to add an extended battery to your want list, but don't install the new ROM or revert to the old ROM before using the battery if you do.

Other stuff to drain your wallet:

Resco Explorer, so you can easily play videos files stored on your computer over wi-fi.

Keyboard. Don't bother with the HP Bluetooth, it eats batteries like crazy.

Tweaks2k2, for various enhancements.

Bluetooth headset for using with Skype. (At least Skype is free.)

Portable Speakers. (The built-in speaker isn't that great for movie watching, but a set of really portable speakers solves that problem.)

Don't worry, we'll have that wallet of your as drained as mine in no time!

My advice would be as the other suggest - get the biggest memory card you can. I have a selection of 2*1GB SD, 2*256k and 2*512K SD cards and a 2Gb and 4Gb CF card. In fact I leave one 1GB SD in nearly all the time and the 4BG CF card- unless I am to watch a movie on one of the other cards i never swap. Actually I will be putting the 256 and 512 SD cards on ebay soon and then get a 2BG SD card.
Its amazing how quickly you run out of space and you will regret not doshing out a few extra £ or $ for the larger capacity.
