Effects of VGA
I currently do not use a VGA switcher such as OzVGA or SE_VGA but recently I have been using MS Reader and even with the font set to its smallest setting I find I am constantly having to 'turn' the page.

I assume if I used something like OzVGA then I would get a great deal more text per page but how would this effect the use of programs like Pocket Informant which appear to use true VGA natively.

From what I have read here on other threads I understand that you need to soft-reset to switch modes so would I have to reset to turn VGA on for MS Reader and then reset to turn it off if I wish to use PI as I think if PI got any smaller I would not be able to read it.

Your advice and expert knowledge greatly appreciated

I don't use VGA switchers because of the need for the soft-reset and everyhing is so small in this mode.
There is another method which works very well for me. You can force some programs (MS Reader in your case) to run in vga mode even if they don't support it. Go get the program here : http://www.ppcfree.com/en/index.php?soft=1296. It worked for me with Acrobat Reader and Pocket Streets 2002 (btw does anybody know if the latest version, 2005, support vga natively ?).

Why don't you just try it, se_vga is a simple tool, that enables you to activate true vga mode, and it is easily reversed within the application, you can uninstal it afterwards. No harm done....

The enormous content space in things like Pocket IE (or any other browser), Textmaker, Adoe Reader is so great it makes me cry (or is that the eyetear from the small fonts.... )

So my advice, "down it, try it!"

Hi AshleyJ. I agree with gschoots. Give it a try. PocketInformant and many other better software applications are VGA "aware" and adjust themselves appropriately when you switch to true VGA or at least allow you to change the fonts in their settings/options.

Thanks for the replies guys

Guess I had better follow your advice and give it a try, as you say I can always uninstall it if I don't get on with it.

Zorglab:
Thanks for the link I will take a look.

My version of Pocket Informant does not adjust icons. VGA mode tried to reduce the size of the icon, but ends up only displaying one corner of the icon.

The fonts come out really, really small, but that's not so much of a problem because it is easy enough to change the sizes to something readable in the font settings screen.

Forcing VGA on a per program basis never seems to work very well for me. I end up with programs that have option screens drawn so big that they dissapear off the edge of the screen and are useless since things like the "OK" button end up being on the unreachable side.

ozVGA which is similar to SE VGA has worked well for me. I just use it for web browsing and recently for Adobe Acrobat. Basically it's for the situations that I feel really benefit from having true VGA.

If your Reader files are displaying too large - even after running with SE_VGA, did you knwo you can change the sixe of font in MS Reader. Also - the formatting of the reader document is also somewhat dependant upon the original format of the document prior to making it a .lit file. if you have the original try messing with the formatting. I got some books in MS word format and converted them - eventually I got it right.

Reinstall Pocket Informant when you are in "true" vga mode will fix the icons.

Take a look at this thread over aximsite.

You hit the nail right on the head.

Now if I were to buy the latest version and then install while I was in true VGA, then it would not look right when in SE VGA? I haven't tried setting up ozVGA to switch between registry information and files stored yet, but I suppose that would be the fix, as long as I could figure out what the screen mode specific files and/or registry entries were.
