Hx4700 now or should I wait?
Maybe I will buy hx4700 after the summer, but I'm a bit negative about the touchpad. If it wasn't for the touchpad I would have no complaints about hx4700.

Maybe the touchpad isn't a problem but since I want to play games sometimes it could be.

Do you think there will be any new PDA from HP soon, similar to hx4700 without the touchpad?

Guessing when HP releases new PDA's is tough, but they seem to put out a new batch every 15 months or so, which means you'd be waiting til the new year.

If you want to play action, shoot 'em up games, then the 4700 definitely isn't your machine. However, check out "MyPDA" to the left and you'll see how many games I have that play great with just a stylus.

Have you checked out the 2750? No VGA, but it does have 128 RAM and a D-Pad.

i recently purchased the HP 4700..and i had the same exact concerns; Especially with the Touchpad. - I havent really used my HP 4700 for games Yet...and i still imagine playing Action type games with the touchpad may be a hassle; but i figure if it comes down to me really want to get hardcore into gaming on a PDA..i would either 1) buy a PSP & use the Hack to play ROMS from Nintendo,SNES,Genesis etc or 2) just buy a game Controller for the PDA.

But my concern I had for the touchpad being on the HP 4700 before purchasing, isnt as bad as I thought it was gonna be...I easily can select to the Left, Right, Up or Down with the touchpad....double clicking sometimes is tricky..but you manage to find your technique on how to work with it.

And the Truth is you really dont have to even use your touchpad..you can just use your styllus on the screen..which I find i use 98% of the time, rather than the touchpad....Not because I dont want to deal with the Touchpad, but because the Screen is just there in front of you & is more Interactive for me to work with it that way.

As far as a new HP...Im not really sure...i heard something may come out in December, but it was more of a Smartphone - not just a PDA. - But as someone once said to me when I asked that question...there will always be something better Around the corner.

I feel the HP 4700 is great & the potential for it being your everyday Multimedia device is there.

Thanks for your replies.
Well, I don't think I will use it for games that often, but I guess that as soon as I have bought the hx4700 there will be a new hx4800 or something with a D-Pad

But after all, hx4700 isn't really for games.

hx 4700 was intended for corporate or business users, but still i got some games that would not require to use the touchpad.
Blueradish's MyPDA list all (great compilation Blueradish) games playable on hx 4700, and i have been using that as my guide to purchase games. A salute and thanks to Blueradish. I play the games mainly to release stress or while waiting for appointments. if you are looking for action shoot em up games then hx4700 is not for you.

Regards

You know, if someone wrote a game with the touch pad in mind, it might actually have more control than the d-pad. All they would have to do is treat it like a track pad instead of a button matrix. It would be more like using an analog joystick. Sadly nobody does this.

The next iPAQ will be the hw6500 messenger, which is far far from being a pda, I recently read somewhere that HP is quite comfortable with the hx4700 as it's top model since it sells well and delivers a good set of functionality for a big target audience, so don't expect any ground breaking new devices soon.
