This also happened to me...unfortunately, the solution was to send it in to HP. I did get it back in 3 days, however, from HP US repair, and they paid shipping both ways.

Hmmmm... From what I've learned from other people, I though you could just try to reload the ROM a second time even if the PDA is completely dead.

For instance, I know of a situation where someone tried to place an illegal copy of the new OS WM5 onto their PDA and having it fail. Then with a completely dead PDA that couldn't start up anything could simply use the ROM uploading program to upload the old ROM back onto his PDA.

I'm not sure whether you tried or not.. and if you haven't tried.. give it a shot b4 u send it to HP.

I was on the phone with HP for 45 minutes trying stuff before it was decided to repair. They were very supportive and helpful. They ended up replacing the system board.

I tried updating with the new ROM on 2 different PC's and with ActiveSync 3.8 and 3.71 - nothing worked. The unit was returned with the new ROM.

Well I got the unit back and yes they replaced the motherboard. The unit now has the new ROM.

Begs the question. Do HP know what the problem is and cant fix it or have they no idea and cant be bothered to find the solution on a certain batch of boards. I find it interesting that this problem is occuring all over the globe which implies that it is not a batch problem.

Anyway back to reloading the unit.
Thanks to those that answered this post.
