slow start button with wisbar advance 2
Hi, hope I'm not repeating a question, I have looked for similar ones.

I have an iPAQ hx4700 and I recently bought Wisbar Advance 2.

I had it installed and when I applied the Juni's SWDeluxe Skin Suite the start button has slowed to annoying speeds.

When I press on the start button with my stylus it takes 2 - 3 seconds to open, this does seem to get quicker by about the 10th time I press it. I have wisbar and the theme installed in main memory as to make it the fastest loading possible.

I've tried hard resetting the iPAQ and only installing wisbar and the theme and same problem occurs.

Anyone have similar problems or know of a way to speed the thing up?

Thanks,

John

Yes, this is a known issue with last version of WA2. Nothing to do with hx4700.
I suggest you go to WA2 forum where this issue is discussed.

I recently bought Wisbar advance 2 for my hx and found it very slow too. I've read the cascading menus can slow it down, but I've also found having 'my documents' as a menu item caused a big delay, which is a shame 'cos that was one of the things I really liked.

Despite how good it looks and it's usefulness, I've removed it from my hx 'cos when I removed the features that slowed it down, it wasn't really worth having (for me).

I've just downloaded the latest version of Wisbar Advance 2 & it seem to be going smoother & faster than the previous version (but that may be because I want to think so, having paid out good money for the program originally )

TransFXB and Bioney both have good advice. WA2 has many features that can slow down the start menue, such as adding items to the start menu, cascading it, caching programs and background images. It does speed up a bit after the first time loaded after a soft reset. It is a great program for the features provided, but does use alot of system resources. THanks transFXB, there is alot of discussion at Lakerigdge's forum, been there, and I mean alot to read through.

The speed issue is being worked out. However the 4700 has had a slow menu from the begining. As of now there really is no need for caching of the program icons. It pretty much is really fast. Just the first time is slow. Just be sure to get the latest release that is out.

I pretty much gave up on the cascading menus, not because of performance but rather it's inability to "remember" the last application launched list when running from a Today screen launcher. According to Chris McKay, it's not possible for WA2 to provide this functionality. WA2 will only maintain the last launched list if a program is launched from the program window (maybe the menu itself too (I don't recall).

Turning off cascading menus and applying the reg mod for non-animation makes the start menu lightning quick. If I need access to a folder, I can always put it on my spb Plus launcher panel.

I am with JNGold...Had to turn off the cascading menu for being too slow...even with the new version. The 1st drop is slow, but the rest are outstanding.

They have a great product...just need more time to work out the bugs. lol
