hx4700 with Audivox GPRS-modem ??
I want to use my hx 4700 together with a GPRS modem. I have bought an Audiovox GPRS modem.
Who has experience with pda and GPRS?

I have limited experience with this - I, too, have an HX4700 & an Audiovox card, although I haven't used it very much - the intention is that I should be able to reach my email account at all times, & so far I've been able to connect wirelessly (although I did test that I could connect to my email account using the card so I know it works).

Do you have specific questions, or are you just after general advice?

Is it possible to configure this as a voice phone?

That's what I'd love, a 4705/GSM/EDGE phone all in one.

Never tried using the HX4700 as a phone, although as john_A says, there is software on the Audiovox CD that lets you use the PPC as a phone.

I actually ignored the CD & got the latest software downloaded from their site:

http://www.audiovox.com/webapp/wcs/s...vlet/index.jsp

Select Software Upgrades then look for the model number of your card (it's probably on Page 2 of the downloads).

I only want to use it for data (email and some internet).
I just looking for a provider in Germany, which is not too expensive.
Before I make a contract, I will be shure, that hx4700 and the Audiovox really work together to make email and internet.

I have never understood why you can't usually use the PocketPC speaker/mic and have to use a plug in headset for voice calls.......does the aforementioned software supplied get around this ? I have often fancied getting such a card for my hx4700, but do not like the idea of the wired headset.......

Like I said, I've never used the phone part (I have a mobile phone that does that for me) - someone that I know who's used it in the past for phone calls did say that he didn't need a headset. (He also said that he had to do a soft reboot to switch from phone usage to GPRS usage, but he was running an old version of the software & I believe that issue has since been addressed.)

The only reason I could see for using a headset would be for privacy (i.e. to stop your calls coming out of the speaker for all to hear) & so you don't annoy others around you (for the same reason).

My company-issued Treo 650 showed up today. It was promised months ago, just FUBAR in the procurement chain until now. I'd forgotten I was in line to get one.

I'm not real impressed so far. The only good thing I was hoping for was Meeting Maker sync and that's not going to work with the Treo either I found out.

Give me a 4700 iPaq capability with a built-in all-band GSM/EDGE phone capability. That's really what I want. Everything else seems crippled by comparison.

A great deal of the time, I'm in range of a hifi hotspot and VPN capability there trumps data dialup capability.

Well, at least I have a company paid SIM card if my dream phone ever makes it out.

I just got the Audiovox GPRS modem, which I bought in Ebay for 122 Eure original packed.
From my provider (O2) I could order a data pack of 10 MB/month for under 10 Euro. Within one hour!! I got the message by SIMS, that my card is now activated for additional dataservice.
I installed the software and took my SIM card out of my mobilephone and put it into the modem.
And now all is working perfect: I can send and get emails, can surf into the internet or I can use the hx 4700 as a normal pocket-phone.

I am happy with it!
and can recommend it to other hx4700 useres on the road.

hi Gerhard,

thats will run very well.
but you have to connect over the bluethooth the correct mobile. When you let a scan by the ipaq so that will find any mobile which will run well after them you have to set the provider of the mobile D2 or what ever. After them you put in a password by the ipaq when you will connect over the mobile enable the bluethooth and go over the manager so you push the mobile push ok and now the mobile will ask you for the passwort. it is all. you can test also by the contect address to send the number to the phone

Cive,
headphone and micro came with the package and I have to plug it in the modem. It works fine and I can use the hx 4700 as mobile phone too.
But the main use will be email and internet.
In the moment I have to switch the SIM-card from the modem to the phone and vica versa.
For 24 Euro I can get a twin card, so I can have both cards on their places.
But I will see if this comfort equals 24 Euros

That's how I use the card - by taking the sim out of my phone & putting it into the card. It's a bit of a nuisance, but I've managed to put up with it so far!

(BTW, my provider here in the UK won't issue a duplicate SIM, "to stop fraud" )
