Help: 4500 mAh battery thickness?
Hello all,

This is my first post to this excellent and informative forum. My question is actually whether it is possible to fit hx4700 with the Mugen 4500 mAh extended battery attached into the Otterbox 1900 case.

I could not find the dimensions of the Mugen battery anywhere on the net, and Lion Battery, the selling company, apparently ignored my emailed question. Could anyone who is using the 4500 mAh battery measure the total thickness of hx4700 + battery and let me know? Per 1900 case specs, the maximum fittable thickness is 23.5 mm (0.93 in).

Of course I would be also interested to hear if anyone has actually tried to fit such extended battery setup into the Otterbox 1900 case!

Regards,

Marko

mvrabec, welcome to the site!

I don't use an extended battery, so I'm afraid I can't answer your question, but I have seen cases advertised for HX4700's that have an extended battery fitted. I would be tempted to do a search for such cases & see if they provide dimensions. For example:

The Mugen Extended 4500 mAh battery adds approximately .25 inches to the total thickness of the 4700.

As for if it will fit, I cannot answer, as I have not seen the case you are talking about. I use the Sena case for the Extended battery, and like it quite well.

Thank you, guys!

With 0.25 in extra thickness, the total would be ~21.5 mm, which is still within 10% (2 mm) of the stated limit of the Otterbox 1900 case (23.5 mm). I think I wil go for it!

Is the extended Mugen the same size as the HP Extended? If not, how different is it?

A couple of updates:

I heard back from Lion Battery. The official dimensions of the Mugen 4500 mAh battery are 2.60" x 4.65" x 0.24" (protruding from the back of the PDA).

However, the Otterbox distributor informed me that my planned configuration WOULD NOT fit into the Armor 1900 case. Maximum possible dimensions are apparently 147 x 77 x 20 mm. (not 23.5 mm). This contradicts the information stated in the 1900 compatibility list, available as PDF document from otterbox.com (141 x 87 x 23.5 mm). Yet another version is given on the Armor 1900 web page at otterbox.com (141 x 89 x 19 mm) ... I will email Otterbox about this and let you know if I learn something.

Possum: dimensions of the HP 3600 mAh battery... that's another well-kept secret. Well, here they are: 2.9 x 2.1 x 0.46 in (66 x 60 x 11.65 mm). The ordinary 1800 mAh battery is 0.23" (5.85 mm) thick, which might be helpful in estimating how much does the 3600 mAh version add to the thickness of the setup.

We are presently using the hx4700 with the hp extended battery & the otter 1900 case it will fit if you remove the holding strap from inside the case & replace it with a piece of soft foam to hold the hx4700 firm.
I have also ordered a Mugan battery, but I doubt if it will fit. The battery cover on the back of the hx4700 is a lot larger then the battery approx 4.11 long this appears to be the maximum that will fit in the otter1900
I have a neodigits battery wallet that I have stripped the wallet from & just use the battery.
It is 4.61 long & will not fit.
However the larger otterbox for the hx5550 models will fit
regards
Murray

I received the answer from Otterbox tech support. They say that ~21mm thick unit should fit into the Otterbox 1900 case. The fit would be tight, but this would not damage the device in any way.

Recieved my Mugan 4500 battery today . It will fit into the 1900 case if you remove the velcro strap from inside the case, its such a tight fit you do not need the strap anyway
