Pharos bluetooth GPS doesn't work with my iPAQ
My hx4705 does not work with bluetooth Pharos iGPS-360 receiver. I followed all instructions in the manual and I tried all possible settings but fruitless. I can successfully establish connection with Pharos but when I view the "status" in the "bluetooth manager", the activity shows as 0 bytes sent and 0 bytes received. When I try to run "Pocket Streets and Trips" with the GPS (COM5) I get a message "the COM port is available but no signal is being received. Make sure the GPS receiver is turned on and connected to the correct port". I tried Ostia as well with COM 8 (and all other COMs) but it did not work either.

In the "Bluetooth settings" for serial port, the inbound COM port is 5 and outbound is 8. It is impossible to change those ports and I am surprised there are 2 ports assigned. Default device for outgoing serial connection is Pharos iGPS-BT.

Please, advise what else I should do. I am going for a long travel this Friday and I really need to make this GPS work. I have not updated the ROM.

Hello Greg220 and welcome to the site!

As strange as it may sound you want to use the Outbound COM port not the Inbound. So your software should be configured to use COM8 and not COM5. Also make sure that the software is configured to use the Baud Rate that the GPS receiver supports. Most I have seen runs at 4800bps but I have seen some that is at 38400bps.

The website for Pharos has setup instructions for the iGPS-360 receiver and 4700/4705. I followed them and had no trouble getting it to work with my 4705. Bruce
