Stupid question of the day
Where is the mic? Everytime I leave myself a voice note I can barely hear myself even with volume on high. If I knew where it was I would try speaking directly into it. Checked the manual as well as online and can't find it any reference to where it is. I know, I know its been one of those days.

Lower right hand corner, just to the right of the iTask arrow button

Ok got it but
even speaking directly into that little bitty tiny hole still only produces a barely audible recording even with volume on high. Is there a control for the input volume from the mic somewhere? Thanks

Yup. Start/Settings/System. Then click on iPAQ Audio. Click OK to the 'Plug in headphone..' dialog box. Then click on the Mic tab. Here you can turn on/off AGC and set your record volume.

Ok, thanks got it but what is AGC?
Got the mic volume up but what is AGC and when and why whould you want to enable it? By the way, is there a source of tips and tricks that teach you this kind of stuff. THe manual leaves a lot to be stumbled upon.

AGC is 'Automatic Gain Control' and in its simplest form, tries to stop very high noises over modulating the signal, and giving a very distorted recording, and very small levels barely being heard. Use it when you have widely varying levels of sound to record, though I have yet to find a non dedicated sound recording device do a halfway decent job of leveling, especially through only one small mic!! Best do it yourself with AGC off.
Bill......;-)

Yup. It's called the IPAQ HQ Forums.

Don't limit your reading to just the 4700 forums, as the other forums hold a wealth of knowledge about all sorts of things related to Windows Mobile.

I wish there was a book that had all the neat tricks and tips, but by the time it was published, it would be outdated by the newer models and Windows Mobile 2005 coming out later this fall.
