Arghhh! Need help again please!
Jesus i'm an idiot!

Been messing about with my 4700 this last couple of days. Anyway i decided i'd have a play with with 'Pocket Mechanic' this evening as it seemed like a good tool to get rid of unwanted Registry Entries. Instead of just doing that though i decided to have a play with what i don't understand (as you do) and what i think i've done is rename the Ipaq File Store. This seems to have put a few files on there that won't delete for some reason.

I'd just done a full backup before messing about and so i decided to do a hard reset and see it that would then allow me to delete these rogue files...needless to say it didn't. So i've read through a few threads on here and it seems like quite a serious problem.

So my question is...if i reflash the unit with the new Rom again will this fix my problem? ie does flashing the Rom also wipe and rewrite the file store?

I promise to leave stuff that i have no understanding of well alone in the future if you can give me a little hope.

Thanks in advance.

Hang in there Yoshimoto. I have absolutely no idea what you're talking about, as I am very new to all of this. However, I'm sure that one of the other forum members will come to your aid in good time!

Good luck.

Hi Yoshimoto,

It's my understanding that it will. But in searching threads, did you run across this one?

Look for eLad's post. He posts a utility that worked for some people (if not all), and which would be easier than reflashing your ROM.

Hope this helps.

TIP:
If it isn't broke...don't "fix" it

The Registry is like peoples minds.....sure, it's fun to mess with their "minds" at first, but in the end, it will be YOU regretting it.

Get it?

Hi,

Yeah i saw that thread and tried the psmformat utility within but it didn't change anything. Also tried that Rosco File Explorer too, it didn't work but it looks to be a great bit of software which i do intend to use in the future.

I've sorted it now though and i feel even stupider than i did before. It was nothing to do with what i did with Pocket Mechanic. The undeletable files had been placed there without me noticing earlier in the day when i turned on the built in HP File Encryption. I turned that off and suddenly the files became deletable.

Anyway, all's well that ends well as they say. Once i've put all my stuff back on again, i intend to leave well alone and use it purely for what i bought it for instead of messing with what i don't understand.

Cheers for all the advice anyway,

Richard
