BT Headphone Warning
I'm not going to gripe about audio quality or anything, there are other threads for that. But to anyone looking to purchase the HP bluetooth headphones, I warn you of the fairly common problem of band failure. The wraparound band can wear and snap with much ease, and even those who take exceptional care of their BT headphones can experience this problem. I did. The band snapped only 23 days after purcahse, so I called HP and asked that wasn't nice about the issue and that I wanted a replacement pair. He said that this classified "accidental damage not covered my the warranty." so I demanded to talk to his manager, who came on and I explained my issue to him. He gave me an "you had to interupt my job for this" additude and also gave me the uncovered-by-warranty deal. So I grabbed a copy of the warranty that I had on hand and read the part about how it warranted against manufacturer defects and craftsmanship for 90 days, then told him straight up that if he and HP failed to honour my warranty that I would take legal action against the company. Without any hesitation except a nervous studdering, he lost his additude and responded with a prompt although somewhat nervous "ye..ye.. sir! I will make sure you recieve replacement headphones within the next 24 hours!" sweet. normally, they ship you a box, you put the damaged unit in it, send it back, then get a new one in the mail a week later, but I scared him so bad with the legal action crack (which I would never have done, obviously) that I will have replacement headphones on my doorstep tomorrow afternoon. And they didn't bother to collect my other ones, meaning I have two pair, one just happens to have a broken band, and tape will fix that. Not a bad deal. But my point is that if you are considering buying these headphones, your band WILL snap eventually, so make sure you are in a position to forcefully enforce your warranty coverage, otherwise you will get screwed. Be careful.

Sorry you had problems with your headset, but the "slur" doesn't add to the story. Hopefully hp will see the weak headbands are an issue. I never broke mine, but it was definitely the weak part.

Some companies do make mods. For example, I had the Logitech Bluetooth headset. You could twist the boom 360 degrees, although you were not supposed to because it broke the wires inside. Well, a friend of mine didn't read the manual and boom went the boom. When I received my replacement, it was a slightly different color and had a very firm stop so the boom could not twist all the way around.

So official complaints do get looked at by some companies

Just a sign of our disposable times. These high tech devices are not cheap to buy, but the designers just don't seem to understand how to make a rugged product that could expected to be actually worn and used. I have a particular problem with headphones. My kids seem to snap one per week. I tell them that it's a fact, they will break so use the type that goes into the ear. Then they simply break the wire or jack.

I sometimes wonder how soldiers shown wearing headsets in action can actually count on these devices to keep in one piece. I know the military spec is somewhat better, but I bet the "Military Spec" wouldn't stand up to my three kids.

Yeah, sorry about the racial slur there, I just got pretty frustrated because there were communication issues between the tech support agent and I. They were supposed to be here today, but I checked my tracking number and they got mailed to an address 3 states away. Good one, HP. So I called them and now they are in transit to my actual address. yay. Again, sorry for the slur, I was just worked up in frustration. Take care!

Do you think the legal action threat actually works? If you hire a lawyer any hour of their time is work probably two brand new headphones. If you do small claims court, they would just ignore you and its rare for a judge to compel anyone to show up for such a small cost item.

No, it probably wouldn't, it would end up being more trouble than its worth, but if I were to do it I would represent myself, without a lawyer...

I cannot get the next/previous track buttons to work nor does the center button, which pauses the song, to work. What is going on?

This is because you are using the updated ROM version, 1.10 with windows media player 10. The headphones were designed to work with the older windows media player 9 in ROM version 1.00. The track change and pause buttons need to be updated to work with windows media 10. I thought you could do this by going to hp.com, look for hardware drivers for the bluetooth headphones, and downloading the updated driver for wmp 10, but I just spent a 1/2 hour searching their site for it and couldn't find the updated BT driver. Do a google search for it and you should be good to go tho.

Why are they so dumb? Can't they just make those buttons add hardware buttons like the Chainpus GamePad, which adds buttons that can be mapped to any program at all. You just select an item in the list of mappable buttons and push the button. Those buttons on the headphones could be used to control anything...heck, they could be used to open up a program!

Very strange.

My own broke and because of info on the subject shared on another thread I called hp and they said that they'd send me out a new unit the next day.

And it was on my at my door the very next day.

But my situation and call to support was hassle-free.

Probably depends on the caller's attitude as well as you get for technical support.

Go here:
http://h18007.www1.hp.com/support/f...load/22622.html

The hx4700 is not listed as one of the applicable systems, but it works for the most part. I'm having trouble with the center button not pausing, but haven't tried to troubleshoot it yet.

Isn't that the same version 1.0 driver that doesn't have support for WMP10?
