I've been doing a lot of experimenting lately to determine the best GPS for me. #1 you need a GPS receiver to start. The receiver is not built in unless I missed something. I use the NAVMAN receiver and smartst software I bought with the program. To date it is one of the better programs I've used. ( I haven't tried Tom Tom Navigator). I bought several other programs to try them (they all work with the NAV receiver and bluetooth with my 4705). I guess it's just a matter of choice and what you are looking for. One program has a good speedometer while another allows you a good start and stop feature so you can record your trips accurately. (eg actual time on the road and accurate mileage). The NAV program is also very good if you want a program that tells you how to get there and how to get back (with voice commands). Also with a great 3D feature. Some programs have a good compass while others have none at all. As I said, it's just a matter of what you are trying to do. My 4705 is great. I rep[laced my HP 5555 with this and all my problems have stopped. I use my 4705 as a phone via the WiFi feature (Skype), as a great currency converter, I do a lot of traveling (1-calc my preference). After being very frustrated with a number of DVD programs and spending a couple of hundred dollars on finding a good one (one that allowed me to have a full screen picture with with lip sinc.) I ended up with DVD studio and TCPMP as my player. I love this stuff....
The best secret to date though has been the
velcro. I use velcro on the cross bar of my bicycle to use GPS on long bike rides (one 2" strip stuck to the back of my unit works great). I also have it on my rear view mirror in my truck so I can use the GPS while driving. And Finally, the best place of all....I carry extra velcro with me and stick a piece on the back of the airplane seat in front of me to watch the DVDs on my unit. It stays perfectly if you get the real velcro (keep your fingers off the sticky side). The 4705 and a set of Bose noiseless headphones is the best investment you can make if you travel a lot... Hope this helps.....
