Ahhh- just lost all my apps
Not really a question, more of a comment or warning to other newbs like me.

I set up my ipaq PROGRAM directory to my liking, put a bunch of medical software in a folder called MEDICAL SOFTWARE (original eh?), internet stuff in an INTERNET folder, etc...

Anyway, I cut and pasted MEDICAL SOFTWARE from programs to start menu so I can access it rapidly.

I then went to rename it to something else, and the OS converted the folder (with all the programs within) to a file. I couldn't open it! I lost all the program shortcuts within.

I tried then manually locating all the program files, and creating a new folder. This didn't work (not sure why, but I suppose some of the program shortcuts were lost).

So I said to myself, why not just restore the PROGRAM - MEDICAL SOFTWARE folder from my last backup. Done! Now that works. However, I lost all the other folders within the PROGRAM folder. Included IPAQ BACKUP + FILE EXPLORER. I couldn't run anything!!! It seems that it restored only that folder and erased everything else!

Finally, just HARD RESET and restore the whole backup. What a crazy hasle, all because of a RENAME.

Ahh, that felt good.
I guess the moral of the story - DON'T RENAME FOLDERS and BACKUP OFTEN!

cheers
mike

Ahh, you gain wisdom, grasshopper. Seriously though, sorry to hear of your aggravation. Glad you had the back-ups

Is there a specific backup application you guys prefer or is the one that comes with the iPaq good enough?

Sprite Software offers a discount for HP iPaq hx4700 owners wishing to upgrade to the premium backup software. You might check out www.spritesoftware.com for more info

I'll have to take a look at sprite... I just had a major upset where the backup util that came with my 4700 had an error - This shouldn't be happening with backups!! Now, when it restored, no shortcuts to my applications menu were there... even though everything was in ipaq filestore.

Is there a program (maybe sprite) that preserves EVERYTHING? Even my BT connection settings with my cellphone?

Mike
