How Do I konw if I must upgrade the ROM of my HX 4705?
Hi freinds;

I was cheking the information of my new HX 4705 and I got the following:

Product Revision Level: 1.0
ROM Date: 04/13/2005
ROM Revision: 1.10.08 ENG
OS Version: Windows CE 4.21
Bootloader Version: 1.01
XIP version: 4.21.15045.0

According the the HP's web page; there are three pathes:

1.- HP iPAQ hx4700 Pocket PC Series Firmware Update for ROM Version 1.10
version 1.10 (16 Sep 05)

2.- HP iPAQ hx4700 Pocket PC Series ROM Update
version 1.10 (10 May 05)

3.- HP iPAQ hx4700 Pocket PC Series Audio Driver Update
version 1.10 (28 Jul 05)

Regarding to the product revision of my new HX 4705; Wlud I have to install allthese three pathes?

Best Regards.

No, you already have the latest ROM version. I suggest, however, that you install the audio driver update and the Firmware update from the HP site. These will ensure that your ROM v. 1.10 works as well as possible.

(Not wishing to butt in, but...) I would enter them in the order of their release date i.e. audio updatre first then firmware update.

(Sorry, Justin, for pre-empting you)

Hi friends;

I just upgraded my HX 4705 in the way you suggested me. Everything was Ok.
Now I got the following information from my IPAQ:

ROM Revision: 1.10.08 ENG
XIP version: 4.21.15045.7-------> Before Upgrade I had 4.21.15045.0

Finaly; I found another new patch:

.- HP iPAQ Pocket PC Storage Card Rename Utility
version 1.10 (7 Nov 05)

Do I have to intall it too?

Best Regards

When I got back my repaired hx 4700 from HP it had the old 1.0 Rom.
I made the update to 1.10 (SP29835 26 MB), then patch SP31180 (6.2 MB) for 1.10 and finaly audiopatch SP30209 (1.4 MB). All are German versions.
Now my hx 4700 runs fine.

It's optional. I wouldn't install it unless you are having problems recognizing your flash card. I have many programs installed and haven't had a problem w/ the default names.

After a repair by HP I didn't make the audioupdate, but I did the two 1.10 updates. After 2 weeks my loudspeaker went south. HP asked me, if I had done the audioupdate before.
I said no, because I also thought it is included in the last 1.10 update, but HP said it isn't and I have should done it .

My hx 4700 was repaired by HP again and I did the audioupdate now.

Ok.

Now Silber1 is making me think more.....

.- First I installed the update audio patch. It wa done succesfully.

.- Second I installed the Firmware Update for ROM. It wa ok too..(As it was already posted; my HX 4705 had already the new ROM version 1.10 so I had no need to do it, just the firmware update for Rom.

.- Third; I installed the HP iPAQ Pocket PC Storage Card Rename Utility
version 1.10 (7 Nov 05). It was done succesfully too.

Now; I got a doubt: Even I firts installed the audio pacth and then the Firmware update Rom version 1.10......I could think myself that I got rid of the audio update.

So How Can I check right now that the audio update was kept after previously installing the firmware update Rom?

Best Regards.

Best Regards.

Silber1: I think your right about the driver being included in the 1.10 XIP Update dated 9/16/05. The description says:

"If this SoftPaq is installed, there is no need to install SoftPaq Number SP30731, "HP iPAQ hx4700 Pocket PC Series Audio Driver Update," as this SoftPaq includes the changes provided in SoftPaq Number SP30731."

So Cevgemv, if you installed the XIP update after the audio driver and 1.10 ROM update, you're fine. Either way, I wouldn't worry about it if you aren't experiencing any issues.

Just tying to help... Do you think it's possible your HP representative was mistaken? I, myself, lean toward what's printed on their website (no offense intended).

Cevgemv: sorry for the confusion. Hope everything works out for you.
