Necessity of Uninstalling Palm HotSync
I have just purchased a "used" 4700 through CompUSA auctions. I had/have been using a Sony Clie UX50/U, which for obvious reasons, I would eventually like to migrate completely away from.
I have two questions. The first is whether there is an absolute necessity of uninstalling Palm HotSync prior to installing Microsoft ActiveSync, as the instructions say to do. I would like to keep the capability of at least synching contacts for both units for the short run.
The second question is in regard to purchasing an extended warranty from somewhere. CompUSA offers only a 21 day warranty, and has neither anything in the way of any type of extension, nor any suggestions.

I've had both of them installed on the same machine before, and they've been fine. Didn't have both PDAs connected simultaneously though

I have had HotSync and Activesync both running on my Laptop/Desktop for quite some time with only minor problems. Usually they revolve around the availability of ports, if I recall correctly. I have had various PDA/Phone hybrids over the years along with both Palm and PPC/WM devices and ususally I am syncing at least two of these with my primary computer.

At one time or another I have had pretty much every combinitation running at a given time: Palm based phone with PPC, PPC based phone with Palm PDA, etc. I don't recall any issues with having the two syncing softwares running or with syncing devices of different formats on the same computer. I have never tried syncing a palm device simultaniously with a PPC, though. I would imagine Outlook would explode or something.

Thanks to you both for the correct info! Both are now up and working on my PC. BTW, HP offers an extended 3 yr (total) warranty, including drowning, smashing, and other types of abuse for the 4700 for the low, low price of $150, but with only a 21 day warranty running from my CompUSA auction, I don't think that I have a great deal of choice, other than going bareback!
