powering on pda
Does anyone know if you should remove the cf card before powering on the pda? Mine seems to freeze if the card is left in.

I have a 6 gig microdrive and 512 MB SD card permanently installed in mine. No problems so far.

I have removed my SD card (1Gb) while it is on and left it in during soft resets, hard resets, power on/off, everything, it pretty much lives in the PDA. No problems with that.

I have a 1Gb CF Card & a 512Mb SD Card - both stay in my PPC, & I have no problems with soft resets, switching on etc.

Are you sure your PPC is freezing, & not just being slow to start up? Some programs can cause the PPC to take longer than would be expected to start up.

Could your card be corrupted? You could check it on your PC using a card reader...

Stupid Q --> IS it NORMAL for the PPC to turn itself ON when taking out the SD? Or...for itself to turn itself ON when putting it in? I only have one PPC so I do not know if this is normal.

Mine does it, so unless mine is broke as well, yes, it is normal.

There is no reason why the device should, freeze up just because it has a CF card in it, perhaps it's faulty. . .

For some unexplained reason, some CF and SD cards dislike each other. There have been some cases where the ipaq would malfunction when both cards are present. However the ipaq would function normally when one or the other is the only card present in the device. Try another CF card or SD card to see if the problem is still present.

I never saw this issue as well with Sandisk Ultra II 2gb SD and 4gb CF cards. However, using my Sandisk Ultra II 8gb CF card will cause the hx4700 to freeze for about 20 seconds before it reads the memory capacity left on the card. I switched to Resco File Explorer at the same time I got this card so I am not sure if that has anything to do with it.
