alright! what filled up my RAM?
So, I was running nice and lean, 5MB used on the storage RAM front, which I thought was good.

I had pulled my GPS software, till I could get a new disc that would allow an install STRAIGHT to SD card and not to main memory, which I did.

I did the install, the SD card, but there was something in there, and then visual CE popped up and then i installed netfront, and the storage RAM went to 15MB.

EVEN THOUGH I had installed these last two items to SD CARD and not MAIN MEMORY.

So, I uninstalled them, BOTH and rebooted and it still shows 10MB of main RAM used.

What is in there? I have tried the simple FIND to see what is new, but I cannot filter by date AND size.

Any thoughts of items that could be filled up? Is there some netfront CACHE somewhere?

I have the messenging software store everything to SD card, so that SHOULDn'T be it, but who knows?

tivoboy, check out "MyPDA". There is a freeware program in there called, "Where is my RAM?" That should help somewhat.

Netfront likely saves the cahe in MM, you also may want to look at a program a called Memmaid or Tweaks2k2, both of these are invaluable for your PPC. They both have tweaks that allow you to change the location of the cache for surfing.

thanks
yeah, i will keep at it.

I did do some deleting, and it appears that even though the CACHE for IE is on the memory card, some unfullfilled downloads might have been in MM.

I deleted that, and some other things, and boom, I am now to to
3.13 MB RAM USED!!

can you f.. believe that?

So, I am going to reinstall copilot to memory card, and see if SOMETHING is getting put there, and then most likely reinstall operat (I am not a fan of netfront, it was SLOW and blocky and the performance didn't seem good at all)

And then will see where we are.

I watch the PDA screen closely whenever I install something, because I've found that despite telling the install to go to the File Store of the SD Card, some programs invariably put stuff into MM. PocketMap Navigator is terrible about that - it installs to MM no matter what you tell it (I think because it's designed to only run from MM). When I find an app like that it usually gets uninstalled relatively soon in favor of something that is more memory-friendly.

I always watch the screen so I can see where it's putting files, and I check my storage ram immediately before and after each install so I can keep track of which programs are using storage memory.

Also, you can tell Netfront where to store its cache directly in the program in the set up options....you don't need to use MemMaid.

Regards,

Gary
