Worried 4700 suddenly quit redrawing screen

Suddenly my Ipaq has quit redrawing the screen, so when I close a program, it continues to stay on the screen until I open another program. Have restored it from several backups, but no luck. Ideas?

backup fully.
Hard reset.

If the problem is gone, it's software.
If the problem is not gone, I'm baffled. This sounds like a software problem.
