Dead hx4700, is recovery possilbe?

Hi,

I have read many posts about recovering a dead hx4700, but I simply can't manage to get in touch with mine :(

I tried to update to WM6.1, and everything went fine during the install (from 0% - 100%) but now its stuck at the welcome/load-screen (All black with the windows vista "alike" windows-logo and the text Windows Mobile 6.1 and the text: 2.01 in the bottom right corner).

I have tried to put it in boot-mode with: (iTask + Contacts) + Reset, but I am not sure
if what should happen really happens :(

When I put it back in the cradle (connected to ac and via USB) the welcome screen comes
back but with no backlight - is the Bootload mode? There is no text saying: SERIAL or USB :(

When running the BootLoader.exe there is no “\\.\WCEUSBSH001” port available :(

I have both Windows Vista and XP computers which is the best platform for recovering?

Is it totally dead or is there a way?

If possible is there a guide with pictures for every single step so I can see where my problem is?

Thanks in advance

Kindly regards, Christian

XP is best, try to put it into bootloader mode . hold ITASK+CONTACTS+RESET....then try to reload a rom...i have just redone mine as i stuffed it with "memmaid" it wouldn to boot properly black screen etc. but i put it into bootloader mode and reloaded sanjays 61v3lite.. reloaded backup and hey presto works great again.
have you done a hard reset? mail, contacts reset? you may need to do it a few times and a soft reset too...

Hi Spud42,

Thanks for the tips - but it doesnt seem to work this time :(

I will try to explain whats (not) going on. I have left the hx4700 in the cradle(connected to ac - but the yello charing lamp wasnt on?).

When I take out the hx4700 its all dead (the display is all black) nothing happens when I push the buttoms (the battery is "locked").

When I put it back in the cradle it shows the boot/logoscreen and nothing else happens.

Sometimes when I have tried diffrent combinations (not in cradle) its just shows the boot screen without backlight (when back in cradle) - but still "dead".

Can you tell me what theses symptoms could point at (and a solution if any)?

Thanks again

Christian

i had similar.the charge light wouldnt go on and the backlight didnt seem to work... i could see the splash screens but it stuck on HP screen...several hard resets and soft resets didnt work. so i put it in boot loader mode. then in the cradle and started chrismrules bootloader program... it saw the ipaq asked which rom then it slowly reloaded the rom and after a hard reset and a soft reset i had it back.reloaded the backup (sprite backup) and i only lost 2 calendar spots..

try to reflash it even if it seems dead....cant really hurt if it is dead...

use this link for some roms....

EDIT.....
just a thought , but is the battery door switch ok? if it isnt shut properly the ipaq wont boot.....it may be faulty.. or the bat door not seated? there is a link somewhere on these forums about cheating the door switch...

Great mate !! ... glad to see its going again.... cant let a 4700 die ...lol
the batteries have "smarts" in them. charging circuits , overheating cutouts etc.. it may be that you just need to buy a replacement battery ??

Yeah glad to see you got it working. was it just not being put into bootloader mode right?
you have to keep holding the buttons down for a while after pressing the reset.

You can usually find the batteries on ebay. HP discontinued the hx4700 so i don't think you can get them from hp anymore.
The other place is pocketpctechs.com. If you're buying a new battery you might aswell go for one of the extended 5200mah ones that will last longer before each recharge.

The battery door lock & release is on the bottom edge of the hx4700. See the picture here.

thanks spud42; i'll keep looking in the posts

i tried with my friends battery but was not so lucky as jebberg who started this thread; both batteries just come up with welcome splash logo and then just sit there. the orange led never lights up.

Big Smile success!

alrite, after many rom update tries and countless hours http://www.aximsite.com/boards/images/smilies/axe.gif in "hx4700" site forums, i stumbled upon a successful combo.

i used ChrisMRulz bootloader and SL61v3
(kudos to both!:cheers:http://www.aximsite.com/boards/images/smilies/beer.gif

______________________________
USB>lnb C:\bootloader\SL61V3.nb0
:F=C:\bootloader\SL61V3.nb0

Done
Code entry point unknown
______________________________
(got me a little worried there with that last entry)

but i just follow the steps anyways
i had to hard and soft reset a few times but eventually it booted up

i am going to play with this my FIRST and successful upgrade from WM2003SE.

maybe another couple weeks and i might try the other roms floating around

THANKS to all who contribute to this awesome forum :approve:
