Backup Battery Dead

I have the hx4705 and it's telling me the backup battery is dead. The main battery works fine. The unit still works fine, though I suspect since this unit is 4+ years old, that the backup may really be dead. I can't find where to get a replacement. Any ideas? Also, what function does the backup perform? My guess is that when the unit runs out of power it kicks in to hold the time and other base functions. Since I have wm6.1 I know I won't lose my memory. Am I correct?
Thanks!

You are correct and the backup battery allows you to switch the main battery on the fly without loosing anything. I would check at Batteryship.com

I've been living without a backup battery for a year. It's a microhassle. If the main battery is fully discharged, my system time resets to May 1, 2007. That takes about 10 seconds to fix.

Doesn't seem worth it to go to the trouble and expense of getting a new one. Yes - I can't change batteries on the fly, but you have to do then is restore from a self-executing backup file, which lives on the CF card, and typically takes about 2 minutes to restore.

Frenchy, thanks for the advice. I asked them and they don't carry it, so I'll keep searching. Boy, it's great to have you back!

Thanks Gylman and Julie. I just ordered one for $28 shipped. Not cheap, but it will save me from hassles.

I had troubles with this battery too. My hx 4700 is over 4 years old, so I didn't care for garantie and opened it. It is easy to replace the battery!
The battery is Varta V 6 HR and costs only some Euros.
Have a look at:
