IPAQ 4705 and Fring

I have a 4705 that I purchased for my daughter to use for research in Madagascar. It served her well, she saved data in Pocket Excel and charged the IPAQ w/a solio.

It still has windows 2003, and is more or less sitting around as a decoration. I know it cannot be used with Skype, but I wonder if it could be used w/Fring - or would upgrade to Mobile 5/6 and more RAM be required?

TIA.... Stan

That link will guide you on getting a 6.1 ROM from XDA devlopers. They don't always work perfectly, but they do work.

I have upgraded my HX4700 with the stock RAM and ROM configuration and have no problems (though I always wish I had more RAM).

As is, you should be able to use Skype on it. Have you tried?

Yes, I downloaded the skype .cab file, and used activesync to transfer to the IPAQ. But when I tried to install, I got an error that the .cab was not a valid Win CE file.

I've use Skype on my iPaq hx2415, which runs windows mobile 2003se, and I now someone who uses Skype on their hx4705. What version did you try to install? I have not updated the version I'm using for about a year, so maybe the problem is with the latest version of Skype.

EDIT: I found the thread on Skype's forum that discusses this issue. It is a year old, but apparently never resolved:

Pocket PC CAB install problem

Send me a private message if you'd like to get an older version of SKYPE that will probably work.
