Battery latch

Hi.
My battery latch has broken. And the pda whont start up. Is there some way to make the Ipaq to think that the battery is placed int its "right" possition? I can see there are 4 soldering points under the cover, if the right ones where soldered together wouldnŽt the Ipaq start in that case? If someone know which ones that is ok to solder together would be much appriciated.

Sorry for my bad english....

I repaired an hx4700 with a broken battery latch switch. It was literally the only thing preventing the unit from turning on.

What you have to do is bridge the contacts on the back side of the switch (opposite from the switch arm side). Running a bit of solder along the back should do the trick.

Perhaps a diagram would help:

_ : :

The "_" is the area where the battery would be. The ": :" represent the contacts for the battery latch switch-just pretend that they are rotated counter-clockwise slightly. The left set of contacts is always bridged, but the right set is opened or closed depending on the switch's position.

_ | : when unlatched, _ | | when latched

What you want to do to bypass the switch is bridge them like this:

_ | | (or, more accurately, _ \ \ to factor the rotation)

Does this help, or should I disassemble my hx4700, take a photo, and edit it to show you how the contacts should be bridged?

Glad to be of assistance. Hopefully, there's nothing wrong with the rest of the unit.

(Now, if I can find a source for those little switches for a true repair...I tried posting in the Classifieds forum here, but no replies. None of the usual repair shops offer that one little part.)
