I find the touchpad touchy for scrolling through documents single-handed. I frequently unintentionally jump to the end or beginning of a document when using the touchpad, something that does not happen using regular navigation buttons or a scroll-wheel. I hope this can be fixed in software.

The great advantage of a touchpad is its durability. Most buttons and wiggle-sticks wear out rapidly (though not the buttons on my twenty-year-old HP calculator).

Touch pad

I am waiting for the 4705 to arrive in stock at my company so I can get it at cost :)

I currently own an Axim X5 Advanced and it was one of the early batch that had the crappy joy pad. As a result, I have learned never to use it. Everything I do is done with the stylus and I have never found this to be inconvenient. I have owned a Palm Pro, a Palm IIIc, a Palm m500, a Palm Tungsten, the Axim and soon, an iPaq, and I never once wished I had a joy pad. I understand gamers need one, but for most other things a PDA is good for, it is simply much faster to use a stylus.

I am looking forward to the touchpad on the iPaq though. My laptop has one and like others here, I have learned to live with the way it works. While I have only played with the touch pad on a 4705 for a few minutes, it seems to be way better than what I have now and may even make me want something like it on my next PDA.

MMPlayer 10

Does any one know if MMPlayer 9 on the hx4700 can or will be upgraded to MMPlayer 10?

No one knows for sure yet but some have speculated that it will come out once the ROM gets updated.

wmp 10 ???

Windows Media Player 10 will not be available on the 4700 due to liscencing issues with some weird thing or other... it is available on other handhelds at this time. Ive been trying to pull wmp10 from the software update of another unit.. no luck so far...

on another note, I did find a version of MOZILLA FIREFOX for small units, like
a keychain usb fob... I am trying to get it functional on the 4700...

I have also found out that win nt 4.0 WILL run on a ppc...

Im already burned out on the lack of basic functionality controls of windows 2003,and i am attempting to par down win xp to a compatable size and try to install it to the mini hdd, dual boot, and run it, this 70 mgs of ram just suck for projects like this... this really is aggravating, they could have just as easily put a 170 mb of mem for the OS in this thing....

just out of interest, how do you go about pairing down win xp, or running win nt 4.0 on a pocket pc? I've heard of a project that ported windows 95/98 to the pocket pc but it was cronically slow. I dont think you can make pocket pc's dual boot, theres been alot of discussion about this on the familiar website (linux on pocket pc's) and I think the only way to do this would be to copy an image of each boot loader onto a compact flash card and have a program resident on the card that could reflash the the ipaq boot loader each time. (obviously a complex solution that could burn out the rom very quickly!)

yep its criminal how little ram they install on these things!

I have a 5450 which I want to replace... How long do I have to wait for a 4700 with more system memory or a 2750 with VGA display - with WM10?

Cheers
Much better to use with grimy fingers - inadvertent in some professions. All sorts of bodily secretions end up between the gaps (like, at the corners of the screen!) with your usual directional keys - kinda iffy to remove.

I'm all sold with the touchpad.

Took me a little longer to appreciate it, but now I think it's great. When everything is set right, it is a remarkable addition. It takes a little finesse. You can't just mash your thumb on it <~>.

Impressive

The review was very comprehensive, well wriiten.

Personally, while I find my hx4700 good, I expected more from such a high range model and a 624mhz processor.
