Hey everyone. After a few months without my Dell X50v, I've bought a hx4705. I guess I can't live without a PDA. :D I was able to snag one off of eBay at a rather decent price, considering the extra accessories that were included. The X50v was great, and was even considering to get another, or a x51v, but wanted to try something new...
-It will come with WM2003SE. What does everyone think about WM5, with the latest ROM? I've read it fixed a lot of problems, but how do you like it? Is it better than WM2003SE? Stability? Anything annoying?
-I think I have all the software I want, (unless there are any specific Apps that make the hx4700 stand out?) but will probably download the latest of everything I've purchased, assuming there will be no compatibility issues.
I have one 4700 with WM2003 and one with WM5. They are both OK. Personally, I like being able to load programs into the filestore (WM2003) explicitely.
Both seem stable. But, I can't say that the upgrade is worth paying for.
I haven't used the latest of the WM5 ROM's as it's been quite some time now since I had my hx4705.. For as much as I love WM5, I'd stick with 2003SE on it. I did the upgrade almost right away when WM5 was released, and it was definitely slow, and had its issues. But, despite those issues, I dunno, it just didn't feel right running WM5. I think that mostly it was just simply to the overall performance issues.. 2003SE definitely ran much better..

I'm going off memory here, but I believe 1.1 was the latest.

Unfortunately ALL the ROM updates for the hx4700 have been pulled from HPs website and have been missing for some weeks now.

I had bought a fully upgraded 2005 ROM, latest verison, 4700 on eBay. I tried to install all my usual applications on it, and it was one disaster after another.
It wasn't really a performance problem, but really a backwards compatibility problem. There were some performance issues, but I didn't use it long enough to really get a sense of how bad they were.
Suffice it to say that not having the filestore under my control was frustrating. Alan_Sh alluded to that.
hi, i have copies of the softpacks for the 4700. is there a place to up load them here? its been a while since i last read this forum. i have 3 soft packs. the rom update to 1.10 , a softpack to fix a speaker problem with some third party software and a softpack to help with an extended battery issue.
