power on problem after installing keyboard software

hope someone can help me with this problem i have.
i got a cpq branded targus foldaway keyboard. after installing the software and connecting to the hx4700 the keyboard works. first keypress is doubled but i can live with that for now. however the problem is that i can turn it off with the power button but it wont turn back on. i have to soft reset it to turn the ipaq back on. then it will turn off ok but not back on. a hard reset fixes the power on problem but the keyboard software needs to be reinstalled and i go in circles.it seems like there might be some registry key that is broken after the keyboard software install which the hard reset fixes.

any ideas as to how to fix this? the keyboard is the direct connect type and came with an adaptor to the new 22 pin plug. i had to modify the plastic to get it to sit right on the 4700. but as i said it works fine but the power button doesnt. any rgistry hacks to fix it?

p.s. i did search but didnt find anything to hlp me.

First thing to try (if yiou haven't already) is to see if there is a more up to date software/driver available from the manufacturer's website.

How does the iPAQ respond if NO software (drivers or applications) from the Targus CD are installed?

well i emailed targus support and they sent me a link to a 1.6 version of the software driver. he also said it wasnt met for a 4700.. so it might be a wm2003se problem. the new driver did the same as the old driver. i think i did try it with no drivers installed but the ipaq didnt recognise the keyboard. i have used the adaptor from the old 12 pin plug to the 22 pin plug, i removed excess plastic so it fitted and i have tried a flexible keyboard i got lumpped with from a very badly worded and misleading ebay add. any way i installed therir software and using the adaptor their keyboard does work. the keyboard is a whiteline FX100 . with this driver the ipaq powers on and off.. funnily enough it also doubles the first keystroke. i would use this but because i didnt have the adaptor when i got it i let my 1 year old daughter play typing on it. and the TYGHBN and arrows keys dont work :-((
well i can still use that keyboard electronics as a base for a joypad/ipaq holder for games.....

i also have a thumboard sps no 251274-001 ,asm no 250110-002
i had to remove a couple of posts and a plastic shroud but it has the correct connector and fits quite well. anyone got thumboard drivers?
