Some people never learn!

Well, I finally did it. I screwed up my 4700!
Obviously, I didn't learn my lesson from this close call I had not too long ago...
http://www.mobilitysite.com/forums/i...00-please.html

I should've just been happy that I got it working again with 1.10. But NOOOOOOOOOOO! I had to try it again!!! Why can't I just be happy with what I have!

I guess I got tired of having to constantly run iTask to close apps all the time so I could free up memory. I really hated that. So I figured I try the WM5 upgrade again. (Stupid!) The last time I tried it I had it worked pretty good. The memory management seems better. That's what I wanted. So I tried it again.

Immediately I started having the weird battery problems. Dratz! Oh well, I can always go back to 1.10. Wrong! When I tried to go back, I got a error writing to the flash ROM!!!! I tried it about 10 more times and it always failed in exactly the same spot! Uh oh! This isn't good!

The ROM refuses to fully flash now and I now have a completely bricked ipaq! Why oh why didn't I just leave it alone! Stupid! Stupid! Stupid!

But all was not lost. Since I was able to flash the 2.1 ROM fully before the problem appeared I assumed that everything after the 'bad spot' in the ROM was still the 2.1 ROM. So all I gotta do is rewrite the first part of the ROM (up to the 'bad spot') with the 2.1 and I might be back in business, right?
So I reflashed it with the 2.1. As expected it failed at the same memory location again. I tried about 10 more times but it always failed at the same spot. But I figure that the rom must be all 2.1 now. So I disconnected it and pressed the reset button. It started to come up but just stayed on the hp screen forever! I tried resetting, etc. but nothing. So then, I just left it on the hp screen until the battery went dead. Then I put it on the charger and voila! It came up and wanted me to calibrate the screen! It's been working fine ever since and with no battery problems! I don't know what happened or why but I'm just glad it's working again! But because of the bad spot in the flash memory, I will never, ever be able to go back to 1.10. Careful what what you wish for!!!

I have a Dell Axim x51V that come preloaded with WM5. Over at the Axim Site there are all kinds of horror stories of people bricking their x50's when upgrading to WM5. I can feel you pain. What I don't understand is people are crying & moaning that they want WM6 which would probably end up with similar results.

Even the most recent ROM update that Dell put out for the Axim 51V people were having problems with.
