Buying in the UK

Well, I tried to buy the rw6828 via Expansys but to no success. Apparently,

I am now going to look at other companies devices that do consider the UK as a market for good PDA phones. Anyone with suggesstions would be appreciated. The trouble is I want one that does not have a square screen, no built in keyboard, and has wifi and wm5. This combination for the UK seems to be impossible.

Unless HP release the rw6828 soon in the UK then they have lost another loyal customer which they seemed to be making a habit of. Good job this site is no longer just for iPAQ users!!!

hi RICOUK.
that's unbelievable.
i'm pretty much in the same boat as yourself here in ireland.

the hp rw 6828 seems like a near perfect device for me but i just can't get my hands on it. i am also seeking a similarly elusive combination of features to what you list above (apart from maybe wm5 which i'm not too pushed about).

i find it hard to believe that hp have such restrictions on resellers here. wtf is that about?
i'm sure there's a market here for such cool devices though.

keep us updated on any developments though will you.

Basically, all I know is that HP say it will definately be released in the UK but wouldn't tell me when, so that could be tommorrow or next year. Also, The woman who I spoke to at Expansys said wait 2 weeks and we will have them in stock, so, I am waiting 2 weeks, if nothing happens then, a different device is to be found. Maybe even buy the O2 Atom (but they only sell the Pure White version now and that is butt ugly!)

ok, fair enough.
at least that's something.

btw, do you know are atoms locked to o2 and therefore only usable with the o2 network. i'm with vodafone here in ireland and would consider getting an unlocked one if it actually worked fine with vodafone.

cheers.

I am guessing that it will work fine with Vodafone. The page for it is here. The release date is 19th July so you might as well wait the two weeks to see what happens with the rw6828.

I would imagine that the O2 brand will stay on, you could scrape off the logo (If is uses paint)!!!!
Waiting does seem to be the best option. They probably know something we don't and are not allowed to tell us. "Good things come to those who wait"!!!!!

No other device is really out there. I am quite tempted with the M600+. But after wanting the rw6828, an fm radio would be really useful, unlimited music playback. All other devices either have square screens with a keyboard or a QVGA screen but a slide out keyboard which is horirble and moving parts should never be used, vulnerable to breakage then.

Have you thought about importing one from Australia?

You can't, HP have strict laws on their products and so you can only buy a product when it is released in your own country. I have tried the HP Australia site but you cannot choose England for delivery, it is locked to Australia.
I also do not want to use Ebay, I have always thought it was dodgy to buy stuff from there and especially a new PDA phone for £400. Especially when they say you cannot return it for any reason, that just sounds really dodgy to me.

It has been over two weeks now and so I wrote an email to the CEO of HP in England, however, after sending it a message said that he is too busy and so does not read the emails, pointless if you ask me!

I have been looking around a bit and found the Gigabyte G-Smart I300 but it is not on their site and the only information I can find on it is from msmobiles.com and some pictures of it at a computer show. If anyone know anymore then that would be brilliant.

Sorry for the long post!!

Just got an email today regarding a comment from HP's product manager here in the UK.

So, I guess it is just a waiting game now. Well I know I will be waiting.
