Worried Porous Audiology

A disappointing thing I have discovered with my newly purchased iPaq rx4540 is that when I plug it into my fm transmitter for listening to audio in the car, the audio quality is quite poor; namely it is very, very quiet. Despite fiddling with the audio settings I have been unable to improve this situation and was wondering if any other owners are experiencing a similar sort of problem?

What transmitter are you using? Have you used this with other devices? I have noted that my iPAQ sound quality is not as good as my ZEN V+, but volume wise on the transmitter beats the ZEN hand down. I guess you have turned the iPAQ volume up and are listening to decent bitrate recordings? (silly questions - sorry!!)

No, no not at all...there's no such thing as a silly question. I listen mostly to music and podcasts. The transmitter admittedly is a belkin knock off (can't remember the exact brand) but as a comparison, I listen to most of my in car audio through my Nokia N73 and get pretty decent sound quality (albeit with a little frying pan background noise), but with the iPaq the audio is really, really quiet. I'm at a loss to explain this...

Increasing the volume on the iPAQ makes no difference?

Nope - have maxed out the volume whereever I can and I get no improvement. I guess the only other thing to try would be to swap over fm transmitters and see if it's that, that is the issue...

I've been reading alot of threads like this lately because I wan't to play mp3s from my ax to the stereo. Sadly most resposes have been somewhat negative with both transmitters and even the FM modulators that plug into the antena. Most people recomend using the cassete tape adaptor (looks like a fake cassete with a wire hanging out of the deck) or using the audio input if you have one . I have a CD player with no input so I'm going to buy a new one that has an input when the money comes in.

If any one has a good transmitter of modulator with a strong signal and no engine whine please let me know.

The more expensive option from me would be to replace the stereo system I have in my 2005 VW Polo sedan with a unit that has an mp3 input jack but probably would be the most desirable in terms of achieving the kind of audio quality that I am searching for.

I am wondering however, is there a noticable difference in the kind of quality you get from fm tunecast transmitters? Like, I know Belkin seems to lead the field (well they are certainly the most prominent) but fm tunecast transmitters are a dime a dozen now a days and I suspect that their output quality would be quite variable. Has anyone done a comparison?

I only have experience of my Belkin Tunecast. Other than generally quiet, addressed in part byu maxing the volume on the player, I've not had problems. As I mentioned before the iPAQ quality is not as good as my ZEN.

Well...after alot of fiddling around I have managed to solve the problem of my porous audiology with the rx4540. As I suspected I wasn't doing everything correctly in terms of audio settings. I found by unchecking the enable headphone equalizer and enable 3D sound for the purposes of in car audio I have managed to yield pretty respectable sound quality within my car. I'm going to stick with my cheap 'n' nasty tunecast transmitter. I have read a number of reviews of the latest offerings from belkin and frankly, they left me cold.
