rx1950 language change

Hello
i have purchased an ipaq rx1950 in german. not knowing this language, i would like to exchange the language to English.
the usual methods of avoinding ROM check by the HPRUU doesnt work, since HP has released a rom update only in english, and not in german.
i tried exchanging ENG to GER in the nbf files, as well as the version - doesnt work, i have a file CRC check error ( the header CRC check pass after theses changes).
i tried putting the PDA in bootloader mode and do same update - still File CRC check error.
i tried to look inside the HPRUU to find the comparison point, and was quite unsuccessfull.

anybody has any idea? or a hacked HPRUU? or a hacked ipaqpcsdk.dll ( comparison with internal rom seems to be done there)

Thanks for any proposition

Greetings Gabi1! Welcome to the MobilitySite forums!

Unfortunately, you don't really have a lot of options. The device you bought was German, and the EULA that you agreed to when starting the device indicates your agreement to using the device with the German language as your default language.

You have two options at this point. First, you could try further hacking of your device with a pirate image, but such topics are NOT ALLOWED here in our forums. It's a dicey proposition that could invalidate your warranty, and is technically against the terms of your EULA (and is therefore a breach-of-contract on your part). Finally, because Microsoft considers swapping BIOS images piracy, means that MobilitySite will not allow it's discussion. It is mentioned in the Forums Guidelines in bullet item #5.

If you don't speak German and have no intention of using the German language, my best suggestion would be re-flash the device with the most up-to-date GERMAN BIOS and seek a refund from the original seller. Then use the proceeds of the refund money to buy the device from a seller offering the same device in the language you want to use.

Hello Elrendhel,

Thank you for your answer and concern.however your response is quite surprising and unfair.

1) When i purchased the unit i was promised by the dealer that language would not be a problem. when i discovered otherwise it was too late for a refund. where i live there is no PDA in english by default.

2) i was not expecting Microsoft to block any language change, and this was definitely not described in the EULA as you claim.

3) i legally purchased the device with a licence. therefore i should be entitled to use the licence for my PDA. i am not seeking pirate image but merely the english update from HP to operate on my PDA. microsoft and HP got paid, i should get my service.

4) i was not aware that imaging ROM, altough by all means made hard by HP and microsoft, was actually illegal. however, claiming it illegal does not make it so. i began this post here only because i read several on the same exact subject (different PDAs) in this forum (that how i learn so much about changing ROM by the way...). rule should be applied for everybody.

5) my instrument being a brick for me at this point (try do anything in a completely foreign language...) it is beyond useless. warranty is the least of my concerns...

finally, instead of crying high and loud unjustly and unfairly "criminal", i would suggest you simply ban me from your forum if you are entitled too, otherwise just let other people live...

A bon entendeur salut!

Sorry that you feel that I am being unfair.

I am truly sorry for your loss and the apparent fraud that was perpetrated on you by the original seller. This needs to remain an issue between you and them (although if you send me a PM to continue this conversation, I will be happy to try assisting you in dealing with this original seller).

This point is not up for discussion. If you wish to challenge this claim, please feel free to deal directly with Microsoft at this juncture.

I agree, anyone who legally purchases their device with a license should get the service that they want.

I am by no means a lawyer or attorney. Should you wish to discuss this issue further, please feel free to contact your equipment vendor or Microsoft.

I agree.

My sincerest apologies for not being able to apply this policy evenly in the past. I am attempting to remedy this problem now by closing all the previous threads that I could find (that were already discussing these subjects). Yours was simply the first "new" thread to be started on the topic, so I am informing everyone that from this point forward, me and my fellow Moderators will not be allowing such threads in the future.

Please see this thread, it may assist you in restoring the native language pack to your PDA. If it is no use to you, let me know. Maybe there are some additional steps that can be taken...

I'll be happy to ban you should you continue to try discussing this topic in any MobilitySite forums. In the meantime, please try to enjoy the forums and use them in the good spirit that they have been provided to you.
