Whats going on at HP! These rx3000 series PPCs are SLOW!!
What the heck is going on at HP???
I’m sorry but come on these new rx3000 series of PPCs are pathetically slow.

Hubtimes video playback results at compusa are no surprise what so ever. I can’t believe these new rx3000 series ipaqs are SLOWER than the previous generations they are designed to replace.....its truly pathetic.

Spb CPU benchmark results:

2215 (pxa255 400mhz) : 1803.5
rx3715 (Samsung 2440 400mhz) : 1529.5

The rx3115 which CompUSA now sells is even slower than that with its little 300mhz Samsung cpu.

What was HP thinking??? The new Intel xscale PXA26x cpus are superior in every way plus they incorporate the new MMX instructions. What would of been perfect is if HP used the new 312mhz xscale cpu in the rx3115 and the 624mhz xscale cpu in the rx3715.

It’s truly a shame..... First they release the rz1710, which everyone will agree is the most pathetic PDA ever produced, and now this....

I just sold my HP 2215 to a friend since I heard of all these new Ipaqs coming out and I must say I am disappointed since I watch alot of encoded DVD movies. I loved how my 2215 played movies when it was overclocked to 475mhz and I was expecting the new 3715 to at least match that speed with this new Samsung CPU, unfortunately it does not and is even slower than the old 400mhz xscale cpus Whats even worse is the Samsung CPUs are unable to be overclocked with software .....and no, overclocking absolutely does not harm PDA CPU simply because they are so power efficient they don’t even get warm.

Sigh... It looks like I will be going over to the dark side and buy a Dell x30 with the 624mhz cpu which is a heck of alot less $$$ anyway.

Samsungs are for battery power, and to keep the cost lower. Stop crying, HP still sells intel PDAs, go buy one.

Keeps the costs lower??? You have to be joking....The ultra fast dell x30 with the top of the line 624mhz intel cpu costs less than the rx3115 and is twice as fast with the same battey run time.....come on now....HP truly failed with this round of ipaqs...

I had wondered about the widening breadth of chips being used which appear to provide other benefits at the expense of speed. I guess in their defense such units are aimed at a wider market, which sadly [for you] isn't the power user.

I suspect that battery life is the biggest factor, I just received the PPC Mag buyers guide and it had one of the best battery lifes of the PPC's tested. Since they are supposed to be multimedia devices it is surprising that they do not perform better.

Considering that the rx3000 series says CONSUMER all over it I assume the maximum possible battary life was a key requirement of the design. After all, your average consumer will not be happy with a three hour battary life on a maching like this. one movie and an hour of MP3s and the battary is dead? That just won't play in Peoria. At the risk of losing high end video quality they opted to maximize the battary life. Makes sense when you consider the market.

As for all the screaming, you aseem to forget that everything has a price. The processor is slow to gain battary life. Battery life drops to accomodate VGA screens. Price skyrockets to pay for a larger battary (the most expensive single element in most handheld equipment).

If you want everything, all the time, and bitch to high heaven when you don't get it eventually you will be left with nothing but endless rereading of those inance "My dream PDA" threads...since no device will ever satisfy you and by now the vendors know that.

Except the trade offs, buy the device that is best for you (be it hp or Dell or Palm or Hasbro) and try to calm down. You will have a better time that way.

As stated, the ipaqs have better battery efficiency, and for me that's paramount, the most important thing for me is the battery efficiency, I hate having to charge because I often forget. More so recently, since I take it with me to school with me.

I understand how important battery life is but the fact that it does not outperform the previous generation is disappointing. $499.00 is way to expensive for this device, only time will tell how many "consumers" drop five bills on this device.

Jesus, look at this thing, the x30 is awesome, lol, after reading reviews, that's my conclusion, goddamnit, I hate living in canada sometimes, we never get anything, the only damn pocket pcs I get in my city are ipaqs. I hate online orders, but damn! I never knew pocket pcs could be so cheap, especially ones this powerful. I'm used to seeing rip off prices, and this for me isn't just a breath of fresh air, it's a great reason to switch! Thanks! Only one thing, I really really hate that the antenna sticks out, that was actually my biggest motivator towards a new ipaq, I hate CF wifi with my 22xx, because I take it lots of places, and it can be damaged in my pocket of backpack if the cf antenna sticks out. How durable is the x30's antenna? And, unfortunately, I'm addicted to nevo, so...what to do? I really love that damn app.
