Weird problem with rx3115

I inherited my rx3115 from my sister-in-law about a year ago. The battery was dead in it and she didn't have any of the software or cables. I found replacements for everything and it worked like a charm after that. I used it heavily for 6 months or so and then I started using it less, so it would sit in my briefcase for a week or so at a time. About two weeks ago, it wouldn't turn on at all, so I plugged it in and it had reset and lost all of my data. I charged it back up and restored what I could--my last backup was about 6 months ago, so I lost a lot of appointments and contacts. Annoying, but completely my fault.

Everything seemed to be working fine after that, but then I noticed something strange. I can't get files to open by tapping on them(pictures, mp3s, docs, xls, tasks). The screen works for everything else: I can use the menus, open programs from the icons on the programs page, etc. I can even make a new file (word or excel), type into it, and then close it. Once it is closed, however, it does not open when I tap on it. Also, in the tasks list, I can make new tasks, but once they are made, I cannot open them to edit them. When I tap the task or file, it is highlighted, and I can tap and hold to delete it or rename it, but it won't open up. It doesn't matter where the files are stored. When I open up file explorer, I can't open up any of the folders by tapping them either.

Two of the buttons on the front appear to be malfunctioning as well. The button on the left that is defaulted to iPaq media goes to the align screen page every time I press it. I tried to change the program it opened, but that didn't work. The iTask button on the right doesn't seem to be working at all and neither does the play/pause button in the center.

I just flashed the ROM to the latest version hoping that would take care of it, but it didn't help. I have reset the unit multiple times, but it is still the same. Has anyone had any similar experiences? Does anyone have any ideas that I could try? Maybe it is just dying. I'm desperate. If I can't get this working, I might actually have to go and spend money on a new one. Thanks in advance for any help.

Excellent, there's nothing like throwing money at a problem to fix it. I'm sure HP is very, very happy with your solution.

I kind of figured it's junk now. I did get a new battery since this happened after I let it die for 3 weeks and the battery has given me problems since then. Probably a waste of $20 to figure out if it will work.

I guess it's good to see that someone at least has had the same problem. I'll let you know if I get it working properly.
