Please help: wierd problem for rx3115

Hey, got an iPaq from a friend. I have the charger and a couple memory sticks, etc. When I first got it, i couldnt get it to go past the boot screen. I ended up putting a piece of paper overtop of the switch underneath the door in the back and now it will boot, charge and hold a charge, and sometimes connect to my computer via active sync. But, I can't get it past the "Tap the screen to set up..." screen. Once or twice while I was fiddling I can remember getting past the align screen. So i know that the touchpad works...

Ideas? I can't seem to update the rom.. How do I flash it or whatever? Any ways I could fix this?
